Same company. They also go by Alphasports at times. Not sure why.

The short answer is "no". UM is a Chinese company that has contracted with Hyosung, a Korean company, to supply them with bikes of 250cc and larger. Eventually, this is supposed to lead to UM building their own 250cc and up bikes with Hyosung motors in them.

Sorry but, "NO SOUP FOR YOU!" UM, Chinese manufacturer. Hyosung, Korean manufacturer. AlphaSports, US importing company. In chronological order, it goes something like this. AlphaSports imports bikes from Hyosung and rebadges them as AlphaSports. Hyosung decides they want to control their own destiny, and assume control of North American distribution. Then, Hyosung signs a deal with UM to supply them with rebadged 250cc and up bikes in order to maximize their production capacity. In a couple of years, Hyosung is supposed to supply 250cc and larger engines to UM for use in bikes that will be UM designs. And here endeth thy lesson....

So "No soup for you" I was more or less right just used the wrong wording. It is the exact same bike and made by the same people...just under different contracts for different purposes. There was a picture of a GT650 floating around with the UM badge. Someone asked who made it...well technically it is Hyosung. Sorry, I was close enough ...no real lesson there.

I can't wait for your report on the Hyosung 250. FYI.

I'm thinking that I'd like to have at least a thousand miles on the clock before I do the full report. That way I can speak to how it performs when run-in, and removed from that new-bike "smell", if ya' know what I mean. With any luck and a little help from the weather gods, that shouldn't be too far off!
