Default clean a carb

I bought a bike that does not run. I was wondering if i could take a look at the carb to see if its dirty. it has not ran in four years so im pretty sure it is dirty, is there any way i could clean it my self? I am trying to get it running then i will take it to get the carb professionally cleaned.
its a 2001 ninja 500

yes. easy job. u want to tear the carb down then spray the shit out of it with carb choke cleaner. let the needles, jet and stuff sit over night.

DO NOT EXPOSE ANY RUBBER PARTS TO CARB CLEANER/ or gasoline (maybe)....it will expand.
