Default R1 Chain & Sprockets??

I need to replace the chain & sprockets on my 02' R1. I've got the new chain & sprockets. In order to replace the chain,( as im told by a friend) I need to cut the new chain to fit? Is this correct? Or is there a master link to take out to fit? This is my 2nd sport bike. I've always had dirt bikes, which was no problem to replace the chain(s) on. Any help would be great! Thankx..

Unless you happened to order a chain with EXACTLY the right number of links, you will need to cut off a link or two to get the new chain to the right length. Just pull the old chain (if it's the OEM, then just use a grinder to knock the heads off of two of the pins and then pull the plate off) off, and set the new chain in and you'll see how many links need removed.

Measure twice, cut once. I've cut one too many links before. It'll drive you to drinking.

you might also need a rivet tool, if the chain is any good. I hope you didnt get the snap-together ones.....
