People sell relay kits that will wire to your battery and usually to your headlight. Generally that means that whatever you have wired to the kit will turn on with the bike (as the headlight is always on when the bike is on). As for me, I just wired directly to the battery but I'll probably add a relay in later.

I knew a guy that had one, and a GPS on his bike...a gixxer 1000. I would likely tap into the power for the head lamps, or something else that MUST be on when your bike is running. Get yourself a wiring schematic and find the best power source to tap into. Just a little FYI though, I know for fact that the same companies that build the radar devices build the detectors, guess who gets the better technology, not us! Radar detectors give you a false sense of security, and thats pretty much it.

yes and no.

with older types of radar, K and KA band (used the most around me), my 6 year old detector still alerts me WELL ahead of time. just last week, there was a cop sitting just over a hill where you couldn't see him. i knew the officers in this town used KA band, and when my detector beeped the KA beep, i slowed down well before i went over the crest of the hill. saved my butt.

on the other hand, i've had MA state troopers peg me with their laser guns, and the detector doesn't even pick it up (and yes, it is a laser detector)

goes both ways. i think it's more helpful around town though.

I love this post, listen any good cop isnt going to have a radar. Most of my tickets are from just following someone. Radar only sees whats in front of you, I sneak up from behind. I guess the best way to avoid them, is to become one
Most of us use the LIDAR by the time it gets you, you cant slow down fast enough. Doppler radar is mostly just a "Hey, Im here, slow down"

Beat The Speeding Ticket and How To Avoid The Next Traffic Ticket here you can buy his ebook and included is his "confessions of a trigger happy traffic cop" which explains how to choose a radar detector, and even how you can avoid getting another ticket even without one. He explains how cops speed trap, ect. you can read all the testimonials on the site, btw, my own testimony - I just beat a speeding ticket in court last week using what i learned from this book. That's a lie, i learned it from the audio version of the book lol, which comes with the ebook for free. this guys is great
