Default Surging

I have a 2005 GSXR 1000 pipe and fuel nanny, bikes screams and always has but after about a yr and a half with no mods or changes, out of no where I get 4th gear surging along with the gear indicator jumping from 4-5 back and forth. Does it almost always in forth usually when you first shift and usually between 5-7K. above 7K it's ok. There is no maechanical reason for it and it doesn't do it in any other gear. Recently it started to do it sometimes in first. and the gear indicator jumps from 1st to 2nd back and forth. I don't think it's a fuel mixture issue. I think it's got something to do with the bike not knowing what gear it is in and adjusting the fuel mixture according to that gear. Does anyone know if there is a pick up somewhere that tells the bike what gear it is in? please email me if you know something. mcroadracer@hotmail.com

The gear indicator issue is most likely that the sensor is just dirty.
