Oil leak above/near gear shift lever. 1996 SMJ.

Hi there and HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Went to take my bike out for an early morning ride and I noticed oil leaking from an area right above the gear shift lever. Checked oil and it is between the two lines. The concrete floor is somewhat porous so the oil did not pool but left a stain.
This bike had a major overhaul during the summer since it had been sitting for several years. Many things were replaced/serviced, from engine to cosmetic.

Grateful,
Dennis

If it had been sitting for several years, there's a high possibility that any of all gaskets have deteriorated to the point that they are useless. I'd do a really good inspection of your bike and just replace them all for peace of mind.

Thank you L8 Braker!
I will take it in tomorrow. This bike had so many things replaced/serviced and it has been running beautifully for the last 600+ miles.
It is a small leak that seemed to have developed in the last week, since I noticed it yesterday. I really hope it is nothing major. She only has 17K miles.

Thanks again,

Dennis

Well it turned out to be a leak from the fuel valve/petcock. Seems the dripping fuel was mixing with dirt/oil from the 20 year old engine and causing the leak to look like an oil leak. Whew! $60 repair.

Grateful for the replies,

Dennis
