I've been eyeing the CBR600RR for almost 2 years now. After the new 2007 redesign and the fact that I'm able to now, I ready to do it, or so I think...
I'm 27 years old and have been riding street bikes since 14, however not in the U.S. I've been in the U.S. for a few years now so I have been off bikes for that amount of time. I'm from the Caribbean. I have my CA auto license but I'll need to get my bike license, the sales person gave me a little info on that but not much. I'm also going to need to buy helmet, gloves, etc. I'm going to need everything from scratch.
Now on to topic, I was sure the 600RR was what I wanted and a friend of mine is buying his at the same time and my other friend will soon. All 3 of us are going to be getting our license at the same time and I'm going to sorta take them under my wing to show them the ropes so they don't kill themselves since they are both new riders.
Anyway, I do almost all of my riding on windy mountain roads for pleasure, hence the 600. I wanted a smaller bike just for this purpose, to be nimble, be quick, and to handle. However I have quite a few friends that live 50 miles away taking the freeway that I visit almost weekly. For the reason I was going to consider the F4i but I guess those aren't made anymore? The dealership did not have any and they said '06 was the last. Then the same person suggested an aftermarket seat for the 600RR like a Corbin or something. Would I be happy with this do you think? The guy was trying to sell me on a Katana but I've already had a Katana 1100 and it's just too big (read: heavy) for my taste. Then he tried selling me on a GSXR but everyone and they sister AND mother have on of those stupid things, lol.
I guess what I'm asking is if the 600RR can be made more comfortable with an aftermarket seat so the 50mi each way rides outta town every weekend don't kill my back, lol. Thanks!
Anything is possible... Instead of dropping a bunch of cash on a Corbin seat, take the seat down to a reputable upholsterer and see what they can do. I had a gel pad put into my F4i. Now that was an uncomfortable seat and about as uncomfortable as my 1000. I actually thought that the new 600RR seat was really comfortable considering that every other seat Honda has put on their sportbike's had been a vinyl wrapped piece of ply wood.
The '07 RR's seat is a huge improvement from previous, at least that's what I've read. A friend recently bought an RR, says the seat's just fine. 50 mi. should be no problem.

You'll get used to the seat i did. plus 50 miles isn't that far. you could also get a corbin seat like you were saying or if you wear leathers get some pants that have a little bit of padding on the butt. my vanson 2 piece have a little bit of padding on the rear that makes riding a little more comfortable.

I'd stick with the factory seat. There was another poster that started a thread on this. I haven't seen a 2007 in the showroom yet, but I heard that the seats were completely redesigned for the 2007 model year.
BTW, I have a stock seat on my Honda, and I typically do at least 80 miles a day when I commute. Passing grade on the comfort factor, but not excellent, but not poor either. You should be able to manage. The first few weeks will be rough, until you get acclimated to the machine.
