Default '07 Kawasaki ZZR600 vs. '06 Honda CBR600 F4i

All right boys, here's the deal... I took HD's Rider's Edge course and have now been on my Buell Blast for 2 seasons. I'm looking to step up to either a Kawasaki ZZR600 or a Honda CBR600 F4i. The CBR is an '06 because they were dropped for '07 but both bikes are brand new.

I'm leaning toward the ZZR mainly due to its price. At $7600 (OTD), it's about a grand less than the CBR though I've done no negotiating yet. I also slightly prefer the ZZR's looks over the CBR's. My only concern is that the ZZR is carbed while the CBR is fuel injected.

I don't know much about motorcycles so will one be less of a hassle for me? Is living with a carbed bike that big of a deal for a relative noob to motorcycling?

If someone can't talk me into a CBR... I'll most likely get the ZZR.

In my highly biased opinion I like the F4i much better. I ride with a guy that has the ZZR and its not a bad bike but technology/performance/quality wise its a step behind the F4i. If you haven't read it already, get the 10/06 Sport Rider magazine. It has a shootout between the ZZR, F4i, and Yammy R6S. They said the ZZR is a nice sport tourer but the suspension and transmission are crap and its hard to start hard or cold.

The ZZR600 being carbed is what kept me away from it when I was buying a bike. Carbs are a PITA when it's cold. I would try to negotiate a deal on the F4i since it's a leftover. You should be able to get them to knock about a grand off. If they don't want to deal don't hesitate to walk. I got my 07 GSXR600 for 8500 OTD. It can be done.

You should be able to pick up a left over F4i for under $8k. Honda has a bad habit of making too many bikes and having to discount them to move them.

As far as a comparison between the 2.... no question. The F4i is far superior. I had a F4i and loved it. Not a single problem and the EFI is well worth it. The ZZR was a good chasis and motor about 10 years ago. Now it's just showing it's age. I say go with the honda.

As far as the looks go.... Honda screwed up by using the old F4 single seat style vs the 01-04 dual seat. You could always find a dual rear tail and seat and paint it. It should bolt right up. Just some food for thought.

I would look for a used F4 or F4i. I was looking at the ZZR myself, but found a99 CBR F4 and took it home for $3800 w/10,400 miles on the odometer.

I've had absolutely no problem starting my bike in the cold I'm talking 10 degrees or less, and a few turns of the engine and it fires right up (carb F4)

This thread is 6 weeks old and the OP now has an F4i listed in in his profile as one of the sportbikes he owns haha. I imagine he went with the F4i (good choice btw )
