Fuel tank lock stuck!

I have a 2007 ninja 250 that was sitting for about 5 months. The other day I finally had some time to ride and had just gotten the bike reinsured so I went and tried to put some fuel in the tank. Well the key goes in and out just fine, and will turn about 1/8th of a turn. Then it just stops. If I keep trying to turn the key bends. I tried PB blaster, wd-40, white lithium, nothing seems to work! It feels like its almost to the point where it would normally pop open. Any ideas? Thanks.

its not the key or lock but the latch and you might have to unbolt the entire gascap assembly if the key is bending

It is good to have an end to journey toward, but it is the journey that is important, in the end.

I tried taking off the screws around the cap, but it appears it still won't come off unless it's already unlocked. Is this something that can be fixed, or will I need to buy a new gas cap after I finally get this one unlocked?

There is one more screw under the lock.

WD-40 isn't much of a lube. Try some penetrating oil or another actual oil (not grease). Put oil in the keyhole and on the key. Wiggle the key in all directions and eventually it'll go.

boldly going forward 'cause we can't find reverse

Try tapping on it at some point as well to break things loose. Maybe some heat too if you have a heat gun?

When in doubt gas it

I had a locksmith come out and open it, really I just needed something stronger than the key. He picked the lock and used a screwdriver to open it the rest of the way. Turns out there was just some grit in the latch, it's working fine now though.
