Default 05 ninja 250 leaking oil

I am having a little trouble locating the leak. The oil accumulates on top of the case, kinda below the carburetor. The underside of the plastic air box is wet, and dripping onto the case, shock, and down to the ground.

Id bet its the valve cover gasket and the wind is spraying the airbox and then dripping down.

Clean the engine really well with soap and water and spray foot powder on the engine, drive around the block 4 or 5 times and look again. Spray foot powder sticks to the engine and will let you trace the source of the leak.

I cleaned it up very well to see where the oil is coming from. Its not coming from the valve cover gasket. It seems as though it is coming from the plastic air box itself?!? I tightened the screws where the air box splits, and it still leaks. Its leaking pretty good too, i ran to get gas down the road and theres probably about a tablespoon. The whole bottom of the air box is wet where it splits, and its running down and dripping off the lowest part of the box.

unless oil is just dripping in there and vibrating out when i rev it... : / If thats the case, then it must be coming from the air box. After running it for a little while, oil will drip out of the little hose with the plug in it that comes out of the airbox, if i unplug it.

Did you just do an oil change? Chances are you have too much oil in there. There is what is basically an overflow valve that goes to the airbox. If the oil pressure is too high (due to too much oil, and then expansion from heat). The oil then drips out of the drainage hole in the airbox. Pull out your oil filter and you will find a small puddle of oil in there, as well as you air filter having a nice coating on it. To fix the problem, drain your oil into a clean container, then refill only until it gets to the correct level on the site glass.

Make sure you have the right amount of oil in the bike. the bike should be on both wheel (not on center stand) upright. Check the level through the sight glass. It should not be above marker to the left of the glass.

Good luck
