Exclamation 04 gs500 oil capacity and check procedure

Hey...just bought a Suk gs500, 04 model. Original owner doesn't have manual. Might sound stupid, but I had a bike with two points for checking oil , and checking the wrong one at the wrong time and filling to that line would cause problems. My question is on the 04 gs500 do you check hot, or cold and what is the capacity. I have 3 quarts in since the change and after running to check for leaks nothing is on the stick. I am afraid to add more as I figured the 2800ml stamping on the case was the capacity. I would ask old owner, but he has more or less vanished.

Thanks for the help.

Welcome to SBN!!

Not 100% sure on the GS, but on most bikes you check the oil level with the bike level (not on the side stand) and warm after shutting the engine off for a minute or 2. As I recall from a friend's old gs500, it was the same. The 2800 ml stamping is the capacity without filter change. With a filter change it will be a few hundred ml more. Did you also change the filter?

3 quarts is a little over 2800 ml.

Yessir, Changed the filter as well. I figured that way I would know what I had, since I wasn't sure when the oil had been changed last if ever...

you can check the oil hot or cold. It's a wet sump system and it has a dip stick.
