Default Ugh Spark Plug Socket Stuck

So I have a 96 CBR600 and i'm trying to change the spark plugs. I am using a 16mm spark plug socket, an extension, and then hooking the ratchet to the extension. I got through the first one somewhat smoothly, however the extension doesn't hook into the socket strong enough to get the rubber to stop grabbing the plug. Anyway I managed to finesse it out and it has happened again on the 2nd one, this time I'm not having the same luck.

Any idea on what I could use to remove a stubborn socket already in the spark plug hole?

Just use the ratchet to break 'em loose then get it outta there and use your fingers on the extension.

I guess I don't really get what the problem is.

Ah, you've got the whole thing out and the plug is stuck in the socket? What, there's not enough sticking out to grab? Pliers, vice?

Third read and I'm back to being confused.

OK, one last try. I think I get it now. Long needle-nose pliers or a hemostat. Coat hanger with a hook on the end smaller than 3/8 across? Or bigger and hook the big end.

Best of luck with it.

I think the op is saying he has the socket stuck down in the spark plug hole, and the socket keeps turning loose from the extension so he cannot manage to get it out.

I'd say buy or borrow from a neighbor another extension.

Na, its like this. The Socket doesn't hook to the extension very strongly, whenever theres a slight resistance in the socket coming up (i.e. the rubber being "stuck" on the plug) then the extension will just detach itself from the socket. So the socket isn't just sliding out smoothly it's catching on the plug and being a pain in the ass to get out.

To get the socket out... cut up a wire coat hanger. Bend a hook on it, and use the square extension hole to hook the inside of the socket. If that doesn't work, try using two of them,,one on each opposite sides of the socket/extension hole.

This is why honda includes a spark plug socket and wrench for every bike. They are all the same size. If you have a friend with a honda, then borrow his. They work great.

In a situation like this I would just get an appropriately sized deep socket and install it with that. No rubber to pull the socket off of your extension then. I only use the spark plug socket for removal.
