Help Me Fix ItA great place to post any problems you maybe having while working on your motorcycle. Most of us are do-it-yourselfers so this is a great way to share any information pertaining to fixing something or adding something on.
Ok so I just used 50/50 blend of synthetic and regular oil when I changed my oil today.
I want to see once and for all if you can or can not mix synthetic and regular oils.
I'm using Spectro S4 regular oil and Spectro synthetic. Both are 20/50 weight.
I hear that it may mess up some gaskets but I think thats just an urban myth. I believe that when synthetic oil first came out that was the case, but some mad scientist was able to solve the problem..
Question:
Mixing Synthetic and Conventional Motor Oils
Can you ever blend synthetic oils and conventional oils? If so, what is the ratio?
-- Julie Patten, Des Moines, IA
Answer:
Yes, synthetic oils can be blended with conventional oils. Several companies, including ExxonMobil, market synthetic blends which are a combination of synthetic and conventional oils. In the case of ExxonMobil, the ratio of synthetic to conventional oil in these products is considered proprietary information.
