Default no neutral light

ok, i am officially stumped. when i start the bike, the neuteal light will not come on, i checked the fuses, everything is fine there. the issue comes when i start the bike. it runs, but dies as soon as i attempt to shift. i have rebuilt the clutch and replaced the clutch cable. someone said it might be the kickstand, but they could give me no other details. please help, i am out of ideas.

Most bikes have a safety feature that if the sidestand is down the engine will shut off when placed in gear. The switch on the sidestand may be binding and in need of lubrication. WD40 will clean and lube. You can also disconnect the switch and bupass it with a jumper to test if the switch is bad. The nutreal light is activated by the transmition which provides a ground and iluminates the light. Disconnect switch at the gearbox and ground wire. If the light goes on there is a problem in the gearbox. If the light does not go on then there is a problem with the bulb? or wiring.

Can you start the bike in gear, with the clutch pulled in?
