Question RF600 Clutch Adjustment

I have a 95 RF600R and have recently re-installed the motor from being rebuilt. When I went to put the bike into first gear to go for a little ride the bike learched forward. I believe the clutch isn't engaging all the way. I have looked at the manual for this bike and it says to adjust by the adjuster screws. I have tried this and it is not much better. Do I need to turn the clutch cable connector around on the shaft another notch? If someone knows please help.

Is there any freeplay in the lever at all? You should be able to pull the lever back enough to stick a nickel in between the perch and the lever, before it actually starts to disengage the clutch.
