Default Cam noise on 1993 GSX-R 750

I am looking at buying a 1993 GSX-R 750. The bike has 18k miles give or take a few on it. It supposedly has aftermarket cams and mikuni flat side carburators. The plastic is off at the moment to be painted.

The bike has Hindle exhaust on it. It started very easy for being cold. My question is this: There is a noise from the motor. It kind of sounded to me like a whistlling noise. The seller stated that it was normal cam noise i was hearing associated with the aftermarket cams. Anyone have any experience with this. The bike seemed to run very smooth and no chatter or bad sound coming from the motor. Anyone have an opinion on this or can offer advice would be appreciated.

Buy a stetoscope and isolate areaof noise. With the plastics off, taking the valve cover should be easy and then you can inspect the cam for abnormal wear

look at the carbs........they should be all metal. there should be no vacuum chamber for the slides.

you and twist the throttle and you should see straight thru the carbs.......regular ones have a butterfly plate and a slide.

Cams...........pull valve cover and look to see it the cam lobes change color as they have been welded and reground.

I dont know anything about any whistling noises in any of the old gsxr stuff Ive built.

If it sounds like its playing jingle bells at idle............yeah its got flatslides. but you shouldnt hear anything with a cam.........its an inline 4 180 degree bank..........it wont really lope or anything like that unless the cams are monsterous...........and if thats the case...........you dont want it for a street bike.

I am pretty sure about the carbs being as hybrid described. And what hybrid described as jingle bells hits the nail on the head. The bike very easy cold with the choke on and idled very smooth.

No loping at all that I noticed. I will check the cams like hybrid suggests which should be easy as the plastic is all off the bike.

Thanks for all the replys.
