Default Stator Gromit - Oil Leak

I have a slight oil leak coming from the gromit where the stator wires exit the stator cover. The gromit is shot. I took it to a bike shop and they said the only way they can fix it is to replace the whole stator for almost $500. The thing that sucks is that I had another shop replace the stator just last year before I rode to Florida and evidentally because it was after market, Parts Unlimited, it either didn't come with that gromit or it was a shitty gromit. What they suggested is to patch it myself baslically. So my question is, has anybody encountered this and fixed it or does anybody have any suggestions? I can get pics if that will help anybody to understand this more.

Thanks,

GR

You start out motorcycling with a full bag of luck and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience before you empty the bag of luck.

The problem is actually the crankshaft seal behind the stator. $500 sounds excessive.

Silicone should fix it. There should be no oil pressure inside that cover, but on most bikes there is oil splashing around. Clean the grommet area and put some silicone around the wires. Another fix is to get a trashed stator cut wires and remove the gromet. Then cut your wires and put gromet over the wires. Splice wires (solder with heat shrink) and you are done.
