you didn't lose any low-end from swapping sprockets. if anything, the change effectively increased your low-end power. Engine-wise, nothing was altered, just the lower effective gearing makes your acceleration quicker.
An ignition advancer does just what the names implies. It sends spark to the cylinder 4 degrees of crank rotation sooner than when compared to stock. Its kinda like turning the cap on a car distributor to put in some more timing. The only difference I've ever noticed with one on my old bike was a slight increase in throttle response. It prolly added like .5hp but that really wasn't what I was after. The added timing helps to burn the juice better, but on bikes the effect really is pretty small if hp gains is what you're looking for.
