Default wreck estimate for my gixxer

ok, here's a rundown for what the local shop found to be fixed:
headlamp assembly: $338.75
rail, seat, r: $213.75
pedal, brake: $75.75
cover, fuel tank: $143.75
tank assy, fuel: $654.75
cover, frame, r: $40.75
fender comp, fro: $160.75
mirror assy, rear: $104.80
cushion, rear vi: $4.96
nut, rear view m: (2)$11.98
handlebar, L: $143.75
lever assembly, bra: $69.99
body assy, cowling: $220.80
brace, cowling: $156.75
cover seat tail center red: $139.60
cap, clutch release: $12.84
plate, under cowl: $6.35
estimate: $68.00
repair labor: $578.00
supplies: $6.25
tax: $188.76
TOTAL: $3341.08
so there ya go. me and my friends are fixing it, so that knocks a chunk out, i might buy the mirror from a friend with the same bike that took the mirrors off the day he bought it. also, my tank had maybe a scratch or two, i could save a bunch of money there by just buffing the scratches out of the one i have... unless there was structural damage, i'll be sure to ask about that. here are a few pictures of the damage. as you can see, rear brake lever is bent backwards, there is damage to the fairings, my left handlebar just broke off. i don't have very good pictures of the tank, but like i said i don't remember any real damage.

The usual probably...riding season, inexperienced guy on first time bike with no course training. Happens all the time round this time of year.

hit some gravel at about 25-30 mph and didn't make the turn. i hit the ditch, locked up the front brakes. it threw me over the bars then slid over my legs. hence the wear your gear in my last post. i didn't get hurt, just a bunch of bruises, but it sure as hell could have been worse.

and i'm not trying to be a dick here, just setting the story straight. this is not my first bike. i've had it for around a month, have 1900 miles on it. i rode a gs500 last season. i'm not trying to say that i am a "very experienced rider," because i realize i'm not. however, please don't classify me as "the kid who started on a 600 and wrecked it because he didn't know how to ride." that's not who i am.

so i have a question about insurance. should i just get all the stuff paid for by insurance or should i go ahead and fix the scratches on the tank to save money (hoping this will make my rates not go up as much)

i was just the opposite. i wanted it back on the road, i just love the thing too much. i know shit happens so i just took it, but i NEVER considered getting rid of it. i couldn't hold food down for a while though, and honestly it was the first time i've cried since middle school.

if you make a claim the rates go up 10% automatically for the 6 month premium. then it might take a few years for it to go down. Thats how it is for my policy.

Don't let one person's experience with one insurance carrier in another state dictate what you do. Call your State Farm agent and ask them. If you end up not filing a claim, no harm done. Sometimes if there's no damage to any other vehicle or person it doesn't effect your rates (at least the first time).

State Farm is absolutely the best in this area.

Sorry bought the mishap! You can save some money though, by leaving the rear brake lever as-is.....before you know it "heel brakes" will be the new "in"....lol.
