Default New petcock valve not working?

My old petcock valve stopped working so I hacked into it a bit to get the flow going so I can still ride.

I got my brand new petcock the other day and installed it, but when I put it on and turned the tank upside down witht he valve to ON, nothing came out. Then I put the old valve, did the same thing, and fuel came out. Suggestions?

that should happen. The petcock is vacuum operated and only opens when there is vacuum comming down the second tube.

Okay now I have a feeling it may not be the petcock, since it is indeed vacuum operated. I'm going to check the tubing that connects the fuel to the carburetor for possible cracks. Could there be a problem with the carburetor itself if the tubing is fine? Or maybe the petcock needs to be primed?

nope.

What is the problem? You just said the petcock no worky.

You do have to "prime" the carbs if they're empty, and since your petcock doesn't have a prime setting you'll just have to crank the engine until it starts.

Do you get any fuel out of the fuel line if you put a vac on the vac line?
