Default help with my seca ii?

i know it's not a real sportbike but its my first bike and it needs some work

the only parts i need help with are the carbs
the owner before me had it running poorly with a dirtbike style tune, never syncd the carbs
i got it to start once but it ran REALLY bad, acted way too rich but not sure
i took the carbs off and replaced those nylon/rubber connecting boots because they were tore up and took apart the carbs and cleaned them (very carefully mind you)
i got it to start earlier but it sounds like it's loping, like not all 4 cylinders are firing
but it just cranks when the choke is all the way out, doesn't sound like it's firing at all
and when it's giving that loping attempt to start while the choke is all the way in if i give it a little throttle it goes into that all crank and no fire sound
i'm just letting the situation dribble out of my head
not sure if this info is clear for anyone else, i'm just getting frustrated if you can't tell

Thanks in advance

way too rich, first you may have some serious leakage from inside the carbs, take them out and rebuild them or have them rebuilt, also from running so rich the plugs or a plug may have fouled, most common place for internal carb leaks are the needle and seat and do you know if the mixture screws have been tampered with this will also affect the way it runs especially at idle, get a manual and go by spec, ussually about 1-1.5 turns out from close hope this info helps

it does some, thanks
the book says that mine are preset, thats all it says 2 turns out for the UK Diversion model and 3 turns out for a different model

i was hoping i didn't have to but i think i will need needles and seats and plugs after reading around about fuel fowled plugs

any other input would be appreciated

on another note...
i hve been unable to find a rebuild "kit" for my carbs whats normally included in a carb rebuild kit so i can just order the parts from a local dealer?

Thumbs up

you'll need to order needles and seats,o/rings and float bowl gaskets, also drill out those caps that cover your mixture screws and adjust them,as well as get a good manometer for syncing the carbs, this is absolutly the the problem with your bike and also replace those plugs!!!!im a certified tech and would not steer you in the wrong direction

cwr954 sounds dead on. A possible fix might be ebay for a spare carb set. There is a site that's pretty good for parts on older bikes. I don't know if I can post the link here though.

pm it to me?
and i found kits on ebay
but the shop couldn't even be bothered with putting up a pic of the actual product... they used pic from another product
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=4620694138
after some research...
the part number in the auction and the pic are for a petcock rebuild kit but the description is for a carb rebuild kit...

i want a nighthawk easier to find parts

just wanted to say thanks to my helpers...
changed out the float needles and float bowls, they had dirt in them
new plugs, oil change, new air filter

fires up easy... now i need to do a valve job
and i tried syncing the carbs... why would the thing read with one carb at about half the vacuum of the others? pretty sure i don't have a leak too

I'll worry about it after i do the valves

Good idea. If your intake valves are off they might affect the vacuum you see on the guage.

if it's actually a carb issue then it's pretty simple.. your carbs are out of sync. Could be an air leak as well, but I've had carbs off pretty far before. Just sync 'em and see how it goes. After you do the valves, of course.
