Question Dropped it for the first time in front of my girlfriend... haha

Ok so the other day I had just bought an Arai Helmet for my gf for christmas and gave it to her cause we were gonna go on a ride that day. My driveway is like at a 45 degree angle cause my house is kinda up on a hill. Well, it had been windy/rainy the past few nights so there was a enormus amout of leaves on my drive way. I start my bike and my gf goes down to the street to wait for me. I turn my bike around and start down the driveway. When I get close to the bottom I hit the breaks to slow down but my tires lock up due to the wet leaves... as soon as i hit the stree my bike flops over on its left side (opposite of the exhaust thank God!!) like 3 feet away from my gf... haha. but she was kind enough to not laugh at me and help me up. =) My left lower faring cracked (it was already cracked before and i was planning on getting a new one soon so its all good) but the metal piece that looks roundish cracked too. Its not cracked completely through but about 1/3 the way. I think it is my clutch compartment cover (I dont know the right name for it) but I wanted to know if this is a serious problem or not. Its the piece that says Yamaha on it (idk if that helps or not) but my bike is a 96 yamaha yzf 600. I dont really have the money to replace any expensive parts right now. so i wanted to know if its just a protective casing or is it something i need to park my bike for? thanx for the help...

I would think that is the stator cover on the left side. They aren't too expensive to replace.

You will want to replace it because there will be a bit of oil in there, you don't want it leaking out, or other crap getting in.

Jeremy, is there any fluid leaks around that area that is cracked and if you want take a picture of your plastic and the cracks and I may be able to fix them even if you have pieces missing. I can be reached through my email or right here on this site. Be sure you check all the way around the stator cover(thats the name of the part) for ANY leaks of any kind,if you dont see any that does not mean its all clear, get a can of unsented spray deorderant and wash the area and dry it good, spray the deorerant arund the area you think may be cracked and look for wet spots to show up, you wil see it if there is. Then just wipe the powder off the area around and on where you sprayed, towels help with over spray. Good luck Captain Hook

Well there isnt any fluid leaks... im not dumb enough to think there isnt a problem if it was leaking =P. I wouldnt ride it if it was leaking anything any ways. Thanx for the help! and what would the deorderant do? i was kinda confused about that? how could you fix them captain hook? anything else? is there a good place to find the part i need to replace other than ebay?

any absorbant powder will show you the presence of liquid that might take a lot longer to see with the naked eye..

try ronayers.com under online microfiche. Bikebandit.com is another option.

Not that hard to cut them....but they will not look factory (the rolled edges and stuff).
