Ok I see now this topic has been covered to some degree, But is this Normal?
should I change the petcock? Carb gaskets? It was a pretty good wreck and I'm now worried that it may be more jacked up than the massive cosmetic damage.
The only way fuel can get into the oil is if it is seeping past the float valves, filling up the float bowls, and running down the carb throat and intake tubes, into the combustion chamber, and past the piston rings.
Do you have trouble starting the bike?

Sorry for the late reply. I'm on the second oil change since the wreck, still has gas smell. going to change again tonight since I have to remove and reinstall Stator cover, leaking gasket. Bike starts and runs just fine. but that is only putt ptting around the neighborhood, still naked. hope to get the upper cowl and headlight today or tomorrow.
Just so ya know, heres how it went down. Crusing down IH10 in Beaumont Tx,
under construction, Im in the far left lane going about 75 - 80. Next thing I know a Bronco decided he wanted to be in the lane with me! In dodging the bronco I took on the concrete wall, me and the bike slid down the wall together for a ways, thought I was going to keep her up. Then the front tire takes a hard right. thats really the last thing I remember. Bike did a flip and landed hard on the low side, I'm doing kartwheels on my head. I came to a stop and remember seeing the bikes headlight pointing me. Tree had stopped the bike. Good thing for gear. Rash on the knee from the wall and on my stomach. jacket tore to sheads, pads all over the highway almost tore off my jeans but they held up, I've e-bayed 800$ worth of parts and ready to goin in the next day or two barring the gas problem.
yeah, sounds like a float valve.. you can try tapping on the fuel bowls (lowest part of the carb) in hopes to reseat it, but you might have to take the carb apart and replace it and its seat.

I would believe the carbs to be ok, as well as the spark plugs. It is running good. I am going to change the oil one more time and go from there. When I got the bike bike home and drained the oil there was only about a half a cup of oil left, cracked stator cover, laying on side for aleast an hour........
so the over flow theory is making sense. If not the I will check carb and plugs.
I think he's saying that it's not flowing over anymore, but that it flowed over a bunch when it was on its side after the accident. If it starts and runs fine, it may very well not be the carbs.
Try changing the oil when it's warm if you can(makes it thinner, runs out better), and make sure you have the bike upright (not on side stand) when you're draining to make sure it all gets out. Could be you just havent fully changed the oil. Oh yeah- make sure you' change the filter too (i know it sounds dumb- but some bikes say every other time, so you might not have been planning on it).

If you have a vaccuum operated petcock it could be a ripped diafram which would allow fuel to be sucked directly into the cylinder. Disconnect the vaccuum hose from the petcock and see if there is raw fuel in the vaccuum line.
