Default Front sprocket is tack welded!

I just bought a 89 fzr600 and took off the sprocket cover to inspect an oil leak. Someone tack welded the sprocket nut on in two places! Why would someone do such a thing? I've never seen this before?

How the hell am I ever going to remove the front sprocket??

Either dremel the tack welds off, or break them with a chisel. Hopefully the splines on your countershaft aren't damaged. That would be a disaster.

Are you sure. Usually the sprocket is welded to the key collar which is bolted to the shaft. There are usually a couple or three tack welds on this joint.
