Default Need some help. Bike Dies.

Got the bike a few weeks ago and it ran fine and everything up untell today. I was ridding and shifted into 2nd and then back down to 1st, came to a stop sign braked then the bike just died on me. Had a difficult time getting it back started, at 1st i thought the battery died or something but then it started back up. Drove it back to the house and shut it off.

Now if its in gear (clutch in of course) it will normally Die as the RPM's just keep dropping and dropping. If its in N it will normally not die but it still will sometimes. Not only that but its harder to start the bike as well. It will crank then catch and die. I have to give it gas to get it started. Its also easier to start it when its in N and not 1st.

Anyone know what the hell is going on with the bike? I've atleast started it everyday i've had it and let it run. I know the carbs need to be syntched so could that have something to do with it? I try changing the idle on the bike by turning the knob on the carb but that doesn't seem to work at all.

Thanks,
Brian.

maybe you got some shoddy gas. I'm sure someone else will chime in for you.

well its been running on the same gas since i got it. So that might be the case but i kind of doubt it. I didn't think gas went bad that fast??

Also it will idle decent at 2k rpms but right when its gets below it or on it it drops to about 1k then slowly declines from there till it dies. I've messed with the idler screw and that doesn't seem to help with it at all.

not sure what it could be.... check the basics....you have enough fuel?
is your fuel switch in the "on" position... kickstand is up?

could be a charging problem...my bike kept dying at stoplights.

needed a new stator.

or could be your rectifier.

maybe someone can test your battery and see if it's charging.

also; is your bike fuel injected or carbed?

carbed...maybe the carbs need cleaning or synching?

So happened to it last night? Was it sitting outside in the rain?

sorry guys i away away for awhile but the bike is a 92 GSXR 600.

When it happened it hadn't rained that night at all and it does sit outside but when its bout to rain we keep it under a blue car cover.

As far as i know the last person installed a new battery and put new carbs on it but the carbs need to be synching/tuned but it ran fine below. As of right now it will hesitate when you go to hit the gas when it idles to low. or it will do the same at about 6k RPMS.

I plan to take it to a shop but i'm trying to fix it myself before i go and blow money on a shop.
I'll mess with the idler screw but as soon as i get it below the 2k or around it it will just keep trying till it gets a little below 1K then just very slowly die and drop in rpms. When it gets that low even if i turn the idler screw back up the idle stays the same.

turn the idle screw up after it is completely warmed up. If you have to sit there and hold the throttle until it is warm, do so. You shouldn't mess with the idle screw until the bike is warm, as it wont' be accurate. Let the bike warm up, then adjust the screw until the idle is set about 2k. Try that, sync your carbs, put in fresh gas and see what happens. You are getting spark evidently, just not enough

I'd also make sure all the headers get warm. That will tell you that all the cylinders are firing. You could be missing spark on one or two of them.

You actually shouldn't mess with the carb at all unless you know what you are doing. However, it does sound like you are having carburetor issues. Sounds like the need to be cleaned and synched. If he put a new "set" of carbs on, they were probably used and adjusted for a different motorcycle. If you are still having issues, you can mail your carbs to me and i'll thoroughly clean them and get them real close to synch for $50.

One more note, spraying carb cleaner directly into a hooked up carb will not accomplish anything.

sweet man. Yea i'm thinking its a carb issue. I did what someone said and let it warmed up and adjusted it and now its running pretty good but still trips out every now and then. Sometimes it will just start reving to 3-2k and not come down for awhile. I think i just need to get the synched. I'll prob have that done when i take it to the shop to get other things done to the bike though. If not i'll keep you inmind.
