Default Throttle STUCK?

Yo i just bought my 01 ninja 636 and it is great but i over rev the shat out of it every gear change because the throttle wont return fast. RETURN SPRING OR NEW GRIPS? Can the tight grips prevent it from snapping back into place?

it could be the cable to the carbs, maybe... or where the cable connects to the hand grip, it could be messed up. it could be a number of things

the first culprit is always the grips. If they rub against the throttle tube housing it slows or stops the return. Next would be the cables binding. As far as the return spring on the carb being bad, I have never seen a modern bike with that failure. I could be surprised one day though.

Why arent you pushing the throttle closed inbetween gears? Do you just let go of the throttle when you shift? I have never seen a style of shifting like that, if thats what your doing.

To check the grip, roll the thumb side of it over on itself and snap the throttle. Then do it to the "free" end. Usually cables that are too tight or binding will make a bike rev up if its in nuetral and running, by turning the bars from lock to lock

check to make sure the grip is not rubbing against the handle bar end cap that screws on.. (cbr 600 here), that was my problem with throttle slowly returning..

The problem is surely in the grip. The springs on your carb or throttle bodies or whatever it has aren't going to be the problem. I doubt the grip went bad or anything either - I dont' see how that could even happen. Something is just binding inside there probably.
