Does anyone use either "the perfect pushup" or something similar? I injured my wrist several years ago and it hurts like a mother if i try to do a set of pushups with my palms flat on the ground. i'm thinking that something like the "perfect pushup" would alleviate that.
any opinions on the things? does it really work? i've talked with a classmate and he said that the rotation actually gives him a pretty good workout for his pecs right above his sternum (along with the arms, etc)... or should i just use one of the ones that don't rotate while doing the pushup?

what kind of wrist injury did you sustain? if a regular push up bothers your wrist, the perfect push up may help you out due to the change in grip and wrist position.
as for the chest workout, it is pretty good. the role of the pectoral muscles is for adduction and internal rotation of the humerus. a regular push up and bench presses do not add the internal rotation of the humerus, but the perfect push up does. which would explain why your friend feels he's getting a good workout.
i'd say do a few knuckle push ups and if that doesn't bother your wrist (which it probably won't b/c you're not flexing/extending your wrist, it is stable) then give the perfect pushup a try.

I was jumping a four-wheeler at a friend's house and was trying to clear the jump but didn't quite make it and came down very hard on the front tires. I didn't wreck it, but when the front tires hit it jammed my wrists. bent them pretty bad (in the position of a pushup, palms down, etc). i think i hyperextended my wrists and damaged something. and of course, with my dad being a doctor i had told him about it several times right after the accident, but he always just said, "oh, you'll get better." but i haven't. it still hurts. nothing broken though, i had it checked.

dude, sometimes it's better to break something than not. a broken bone is pretty much a given to heal in 8 weeks, whereas tendon/ligament damage can take much longer and can be aggravated with the smallest force and irritate you for a LONG time.
i had a similar injury as you have, but luckily when i had it checked by the doctor, they put me in a cast for 3 weeks until a recheck confirmed i didn't break any of the carpal bones. 3 weeks of immobility did help my healing process.

ummm.....why waste your money on that crap? All you get is one piece of equipment for all that money. Get a gym membership and do DB bench press. You can do all that rotation garbage that you want and you have all the other equipment at the gym to use. You have to have a lot of self discipline if you want to workout at home. Why? Because at home your used to taking it easy, sleeping, and generally relaxing. If your used to doing that, making yourself workout is a lot harder. However, get a gym membership, and its much easier to workout. Why? Because every time you are in the gym you workout....and you are used to working out every time you are in there. Thus, it becomes your habit to workout hard every time you are at the gym.
coronado - yeah, sometimes i wish i had broken it. but as i said, my dad's a doctor, so i asked him and he said i'd be fine. well, that's one piece of advice i wish i hadn't taken. i may go visit the chiropractor again cuz he played around with it a bit and it felt better for a while. but it's been about 3-4 years since i damaged it, so i don't know how much better i'm going to be able to get it.
yamirider - i like how you assume that i have no experience with anything... i have free access to the gym at school. i just want something that i will be able to use at home. i don't have a weight machine at home anymore, so once i'm done running i want to be able to do some pushups without my wrist killing me. i've gotten used to working out at the gym (school)... i was taking a weight training class this last quarter. so i'm definitely going to try to keep it up, but i want something i'll be able to do at home. OR possibly when i'm out firefighting this summer.
and it's not like it's "all that money." it's only about 30 bucks on ebay.
rotation garbage? sounds like coronado thought it was a good thing that you don't get from a regular pushup...
from what i read, it seems as if you think you are better than me and know everything there is to know. instead of asking why i want to do pushups at home you assume that i've not worked out at all and that i'm just gonna slack off at home. that's how it came across to me at least. maybe you didn't mean it that way.

If its "only about 30 bucks" why make a big deal out of it. If its only about 30 bucks just buy the thing.
cuz i'm a broke college student, and if i'm buying a cheap piece of plastic that's gonna break after my second time using it i'd rather spend my thirty bucks on something else.
i'm just tryin to see if anyone has an opinion on them... if they've used them before... if they thought they were useful... etc.

broke my wrist and needed a screw in it, I ended up playing with it broken so it never healed right. Push-ups on my fists are no my best friend. Give it a try.
I use small hexagonal dumbbells for pushups. Just put them on the floor in whatever position you want. Since they aren't round they won't roll all over the place.
They also sell the pushup bars for about $15 at most sporting goods stores.
Also $30 isn't much even for a broke college student. I bet you spend more than that on fast food. I know I did (and still do at times). And your dad is a doctor but won't offer up a better opinion on how to heal up strained ligaments?
I also have no opinion on the perfect pushup, but since I'm also broke I tend to go with whatever my gym has (dumbbells or those pushup bars).
And your dad is a doctor but won't offer up a better opinion on how to heal up strained ligaments?
he's a general surgeon. not an orthopedic doctor who deals with joint injuries on a daily basis.
besides. it's been several years since the injury, so it's probably a little late now.
the "perfect pushup" things are coming on tuesday, so i'll try them out and give my opinion of them.

oh yea about the perfect pushup my friend has it, and it seems to work really well. You can feel the entire shoulder being worked out. To me, not worth it though, use dumbbells.
