Every now and then I have a craving for soda. I normally get a diet soda (whatever is available) and sip on 1/2 the can. The rest just gets dumped over the grass
Is a diet soda really ok to drink? The Diet Coke I have in front of me says it has zero calories, and 40mg of sodium. Now I'd assume the label is correct, but do the chemicals in this drink just trick your brain into thinking that there are zero calories? I know when I attempt to drink a full can I feel like crap. Well I feel the same way when I drink a normal soda too, but at least those taste alot better.

calories from diet sodas aren't the concern really ... the bad side of diet sodas is, believe it or not, weight gain. not necessarily from the soda, but the artificial sweeteners in diet sodas have been shown that they increase the cravings for sweets, and can also cause further lead to a non-healthy eating behavior due to the cravings caused by diet soda.

Well educated folks here. The calories are indeed zero but the overall health effects are negative for most people. I drank coke zero vanilla which tastes very good to me for about 3-4 weeks off and on and could visually see the added weight caused by it because my diet is very strict. I stopped and about 3-4 weeks later the symptoms were gone.
It's tempting but if you are drinking diet to get learner [like me] you aren't benefiting your cause. Get used to drinking water and if you want to change it up I make tea [still zero calories] which is delicious or I drink something with protein.

I don't like drinking carbonation. Go without it long enough and you will learn to hate it too. That stuff always makes my stomach hurt and gives me a headache.
If you're fat and trying to lose weight I feel switching from regular soda to diet can be beneficial. Simply cutting soda for a lot of folks cuts 500 or more calories a day out of their diet.
With that said, as mentioned artificial sweetners cause the same kind of reactions in your body as regular processed sugar. They should be avoided for this reason. The best thing to drink we all know is good old water, and if you're serious about health that is the way to go.
An occasional diet soda is ok if you feel the need but you should absolutely not have it around the house.
I gotta quit the diet mt.dew...I drink tons of it.I used to be 240 pounds almost and switching to diet kicked in my weight loss but now I've been 190 pounds for 5 years now and I'm still killin' the diet mt.dew..
I love carbonated drinks. However, what I do is get pure carbonated water (about 69 cents for a 2 liter at my grocery store) and some limes. A great drink that is truly all natural.
When I go out and don't want to drink, I get a soda water with lime. There is a little bit of sodium in soda water AKA club soda, but it is still better than other stuff.
Any journals on the artificial sweeteners leading to gaining fat by craving sweets...i drink diet so i don't eat sweets and it works for me, i'm in pretty good shape.
Gaining fat is the least of your worries when it comes to low fat/diet stuff. And its not that damn hard to quit so what the hell? You would rather be a fat tumorous cancerous fucker with nerve damage than suffer withdraws for a week? I shouldnt have to say the whole reason a person is fat is because they dont have the backbone to say no and do something else. If you cant quit such a simple thing, its only going to be downhill for you.
Now if you will excuse me, I have to go bang my head against the wall.
Most sodas go down like some sort of toxic battery acid. That said, I'm still a sucker for Mt. Dew (regular, not diet). I've cut back to a couple only on the weekends and will eventually get off it all together but it's just that I love the taste. Tooth enamel....it's overrated.
Im no perfectionist. I have soda too. But when I do its always mixed with booze. You have to stick with things that arent convenient if you dont want to get into habbits. A cigar instead of a pack of cigs, a jack n coke instead of a 24 pack of beer/soda in a mini fridge next to the couch.
