So for you body builders out there... what supplements do you use? I am especially interested in fat cutting so i am looing for techniques for that. I am a fitness guy but haven't learned much about the the supplements side, on the physical & technique side. Thanks.
I've tried Hydroxycut. My experience with that is that within the first 10 days or so, I dropped about 7 pounds. I think it was mostly water because I sweated like crazy. I constantly felt like I was burning up and my heart would race just sitting there. After about another week, I decided it was not making my progress any better. I drop weight every year so I know how my body reacts without supplements as well. IMO, you should only use it when your progress stalls after you have already dropped weight and only for a short time to shed the last 5-10lbs. Again, IMO, it's not something I would recommend for someone just beginning their weight-loss cycle who plan to use it through out the duration.

I used to take chromium all the time (along with several other supplements). It's supposed to make it easier to process fat & carbs. It helps to balance sugar levels. It was a regular part of my daily supplements when I was working out pretty hard. I lost body fat and was gaining muscle pretty nicely.
Funny though, after reading more about it I wonder if it was related to my high liver enzymes.

I used it for awhile & it made me breakout. Right now only thing I'm taking is creatine & protien shakes. My diet is very strict & all my meals are portioned. So far I've lost 12pds in 4weeks.
I have something else to add. It's not necessarily a fat-loss supplement but I do want to say glutamine has treated me really well. Since you may be training harder than usual to shed the fat, your body may not recover as quickly. Glutamine aids your body in recovery and is considered anti-catabolic. When you're in a calorie deficit (weight loss), your body may begin to break down muscle for fuel and basically, glutamine can help prevent that.
If I was allowed only one supplement to use, I would pick glutamine. And yes, that's over protein. It really is the only supplement that I have ever felt noticeable change from. I've been able to train more intensely than ever and that's not a placebo effect. I was under the impression that when I first started using it, it was solely for anti-catabolism. It can also improve protein synthesis and increase cell volume. That's why a popular combo is protein/creatine/glutamine shake.
I'm rambling so I'll spare your eyes from reading more...

i've never tried hydroxycut ... i am not big into taking pills and especially something that makes ones heart race. i broke down once and tried trim spa (before anna nicole endorsed it). it was okay, although i lost a significant amount of weight, i seriously don't attribute anything to trim spa. i felt no differently taking them than if i hadn't.
anyway, from the sounds of it, i'm similar to you, i drop weight about every 18 months. i have a degree in sports med and exercise science, plus battling my weight all my life, i know how my body reacts to exercise changes, food/drink, and lack of sleep. i gain weight pretty quickly but lose it almost as fast.
anyway, that is my 2 cents.

Weights, cardio and plenty of water with a decent diet. Doesn't cost any extra.
If you listen to all the marketing hype you'll spend your money on one after the other with very minimal results if any. Most of the weight loss is water weight which you can accomplish by increasing your water intake and reducing sodium.
The best supplement for fat loss is eating right. I know thats a smartass comment but its true. Most people are wasting their money on supps because their diet negates any benefits (and a lot don't have any benefits anyhow) gained from the pills and powders.
Whole grain carbs in the morning and after workout. Protein, veggies, fruits and nuts the rest of the time. Only drink water and green tea. Eat like this at maintenance calorie level and you'll find (if you're getting enough protein) that you'll lose fat steadily.
After you've cleaned your diet up the next best 'trick' is intervals. Tabata protocol is good (google it) or if you're more into endurance athletics there are plenty of interval program available in books, magazines or the web. Intervals strip fat off like nothing else.
Finally, as mentioned just stay active. Walk or bike everywhere you can. Your body likes being outside anyway.
As a footnote, I'm not a bodybuilder but I've maintained a lowish BF most of my adult life, and have found that most supplements serve to only supplement the seller's income.
The best way to cut down is a lot of cardio, high protein low carb diet.
Eat 5-7 small meals per day to keep your energy level up. Lift weights I usually try to power-lift; but the energy levels might not be there. Most people recommend lower weight, high reps.
Too much protein without enough carbs and you will begin to have an ammonia smell (good warning sign for going overboard).
Personally, I wouldn't take any supplements. Most are a temp fix and so far I've seen mixed results. Once they stripped ephedrine from the products most don't produce results.
Oh yeah and a ton of water and no more beer/leaded sodas.
