So a few of you know i have been hitting the gym on a regular basis. recently my workouts have consisted of low rep w/ high weights. now it is time for the change up again, i am going to keep with the same number of sets but going to change to low weight high rep. in this phase i hope to burn away large sums of fat, the last phase i was looking at building large sums of muscle.
High weight is what builds muscle the high reps tones it. If i remember correctly you have only been on this for what maybe 6-8 weeks. Trust me your body can still grow with with your going with.
If you want a change then switch up your days, switch your monday with your thursday work out and so on. Your body will take a shock when you change the days and throw off the normal routine.
Also crank up your calories some, diet will make a big difference. When i was bulking i would put down 4500-5000 calories a day.
so i went for about 100 miles on the bike yesterday, with the one piece on, the working out i have done has really changed the fit of the suit. it is very tight in the shoulders, almost to the point where my arms are going numb, the legs are confortable, but the waist may need to be hemmed in a little bit, i could fit a spare tire inside there.
Please no high reps tones mucle and low reps build muscle comments. It's totally not true. Periodization (altering reps, ranges, tempos) is what continues progress. No such thing as muscle toning.

Don't worry man you'll get use to it. I haven't been able to cross my arms in a jacket in years and I'm not that big but have broad shoulders and wider then normal back.

^^ um, i have to disagree... you can definitely tone muscle, and the (overly) generally prescribed 'high/low' workouts have been a staple for a long long time. There is plenty of science behind it, so i'll save that for you to research on your own.
Great progress you've made binx. I'm sorry I haven't been here to comment more and show the progress omar and I have been making, but i'll try and get an update here shortly. I'm on a family vacation right now, but when I get back I'll be starting the 2nd phase of the program he and I are doing (he's been on it for 3 weeks already, and will be going to phase 3 in 2 weeks).

shit is going south real fast for me, i had to cut my gym membership to save some money, but good thing we have a gym at work, but it is not the highest of qualities.

Show me this science that tells me that rep ranges somehow "tone" muscles?
I'm curious how the adaptive properties a body takes as a result of exercise can somehow distinguish between rep ranges and somehow grow muscle in a different manner.
Times have changed my man this isn't the 70's anymore.

it's about the types of muscle fibers worked during the exercise. runners and body builders are building muscles, but not the same type. the whole high reps low reps blah blah is old anyhow and things have progressed past that point anyhow.

well, simply, an 'un-toned' muscle is one that is not worked. Exercise tones muscles... which I don't think is really arguable... which is why I was a bit surprised at the comment "No such thing as muscle toning." Granted, there is probably no scientific term called "toning", but that is what is happening to muscles when you work them.
Yes, i am talking about fast twitch and slow twitch... which was more a direct response to the specific adaptation of muscles to a workload. Longer and less intense workloads will produce different results in muscle mass and composition than will shorter more powerful workloads. That's where I was going with that.
