i was cert'd with ACE ... good one. i took it quite a few years ago and then it was just to take the exam.
is that still the case?

most of the certifying agencies are just an exam and fee's. being a member of some of the professional associations requires application for membership and a degree in the field.

ACE is the most recognized, although along with that it is also the most expensive and hardest.
NSCS (strength and conditioning specialist) requires a bachelors, then a test and some fees. Overal cost for this is about 300 for the exam and 400 for study materials.

I'm pretty sure you mean the NSCA... unless NSCS is something I haven't heard of before.
There is the CSCS (certified strength and conditioning specialist), NFPT, and NFPA, along with a few others I'm not a member of. If you are interested in becoming affiliated with any of those entities and have the training required to pass the exams (and the money of course :p) you can google them to find their websites.
