I was laying in bed trying to fall asleep last night, but I was hungry. I usually don't eat before bed for obvious reasons, but if I have to eat something, what do you suggest?
what would be your concern, eating before bed adds pounds or keeping you up, or something else?
one thing that most do not think about is acid reflux. after you eat, the acid in your stomach increases. then when you lay down flat, you increase the chance of that acid entering your esophagus. overtime, this will lead to acid reflux and ulcers.
also, eating acidic food will also increase the chance of acid reflux.
if you are concerned that what you eat will keep you up, don't eat any simple carbs or foods w/ high sugar.

I've been eating 2 cups of the Activia yogurt a day, with the last one usually being not long before bed. My reasoning is that the diet I'm on is one of 6 small meals a day, and that is my last meal. It has both carbs and protien, plus the bacteria is good for digestion. There is some sugar but not much and I haven't had any indegestion with it.
Basically, I think it is a good idea to have something small before bed, because your body still needs nutrition even when your asleep. The important thing is WHAT not WHEN. I believe alot of the rumors/myths about not eating for a few hours prior to bedtime come from people who are eating way too much crap anyway. If John Doe is eating a big bowl of ice cream every night before bed, and then stops doing so, of course he is going to lose some weight!
I'm eating 5-6 small meals a day. I've been sticking to a cardio workout for the last 3 weeks in an effort to burn fat, and I don't want to eat something that will be detrimental to that.
The question wasn't "should I or shouldn't I?" It's WHAT is good to eat before sleeping?
I've tried to stick to tuna. I keep at least a dozen cans on hand for quick meals when I'm either on the go or don't want to cook something, and a shake won't cut it sometimes.
Re: acid reflux...
I had a problem with that a while back so I've cut back the size of my meals and stopped drinking like a college student. It hasn't been a problem for about 4 months.

I would still lift weights as well. Making your muscles stronger, leaner, and bigger means your body will need to burn fat to power them. I personally believe that both cardio and weights are important for whatever you want to do.
As for what to eat before bed, like I said I have been doing the 1 cup of Activia yogurt, but I think anything healthy that consists of a small portion of carbs and a small portion of protien would be fine. I have also been known to make a salad with greens, tomato, fat free cottage cheese (protien), and fat free croutons (carb). A little light or fat free dressing, and you're set!

awesome that acid reflux isn't an issue any longer ... that can be some pretty bad stuff.
as for what to eat, stay away from the sugary foods unless you want to have trouble sleeping.
protein food (jerky, tuna, etc.) and maybe a little fatty food staying away from those piggy pies (little debbie snack cakes).
