Default Suppliments?

So what kind of suppliments do you guys take to help you bulk up?

I was taking this one called cyto gainer that a friend of my recomended to me. When he started lifting he was pretty skinny (not a whole lot of fat) and now he has a LOT of muscle, with still very little fat. He said a lot of his bulking up had to do with taking the cyto gainer, but I stopped taking it after a while because I was not sure if that was what I wanted to do because I had some fat that I wanted to get rid of and I didnt think a weight gainer was the way to go.

When I started taking it I definetly noticed a jump in my strength and size, so i am sure I will start taking it again after I get rid of the fat I want to loose.

There are a few other suppliments that i have been researching but I am still not sure if they are worth taking. I am sure a lot of you know about creatine and its affects, but I found this product that claims to be a lot more effective than regular creatine: Bodybuilding.com - ALRI Cr2 - Creatine Ethyl Ester! On sale now!

So what do/have you guys taken to help build muscle? What do you recomend and what do you think people should avoid?

GH precursors are actually very effective, and when taken properly are not detrimental to your health. If you are in any organized activity that does drug testing you will come up with a positive test and could face serious sanctions.

Creatine has not been shown, in scientific laboratory tests, to maintain gains after stopping supplementation. I would love to see otherwise, since the gains I've seen when people use this have been interesting.

Best supplementation for gaining that I can think of, aside from your typical over the counter gainers, is getting more calories in you. You need to make sure they are good, healthy, nutritional calories, but if you eat more calories than you burn (that is what you work out and what your body burns naturally), you will gain weight. That's really the most sure fire way gain weight and muscle properly.

Don't get caught up in all the marketing hype of the supplements. If you want to bulk up it comes down to eating enough calories to grow. No matter how much money you waste on supplements, if you're not taking in a + amount of calories you won't add much muscle.

I would recommend taking

Creatine (plain creatine monohydrate is fine but I use controlled labs green mag)
Multivitamin
Fish/flax oil caps
whey protein (post workout)
green tea extract (antioxidants)
probiotics (not necessary but helpful with high calorie diets)

The last two post are pretty spot-on. Worry about overall calories first, then worry about supplements if you're still not growing at all (which you will be if you eat enough). Whey Protein powder is always good, not to mention it pretty much always includes all the essential amino acids plus glutamine, plus a bunch of other stuff. It's a great supplement even if you're not looking to get huge!

+1 for Cytogainer. Only been on it a couple weeks and power has improved along with recovery. I have a metabolism similar to a hummingbird and it's not practical to maintain positive nitrogen and carbs without a supplement during the day. I would be cooking and eating all damn day.

Yes, I tried the whole foods approach by cooking a ton of rice and pasta and eating off it all week with chicken and tuna and so on. Forget that. I'd rather eat regular meals and toss back a shake for what I'm lacking. Do the math and try to get the same amount of quality protein and carbs through foods vs the shake. The shake wins in both content and price.

well here is an intresting concept, what works for me probably wont work for you. but it could, people are all different that is why there are a million types of supplements out there. me i will take creatine once and a while, but just mainly ingest protien.

I've been taking cyto gainer for the past 2 years (on and off) and works like charm . If you want tons of energy and crazy workouts I suggest you buy some NO-XPLODE.

I am a customer service rep for Bodybuilding.com so if you have any questions you send me a pm and I will be happy to help you out. If you just started out I wouldn't recommend taking anything to crazy just yet. Since you are looking to bulk up protein(1.5-2 grams per pound of body weight) and a good multivitamin are the two most important supps. The other foundation supplements I recommend would be a good creatine (post workout), glutamine(during as well as post), and a nitric oxide(pre workout). All very important and will help you reach your goals quick!
