I was in an accident last month and received two citations in conjunction with it. I'm not from GA and it's been years since I had a ticket, so I'm not sure what the rules are there.
Both of the tickets say I'm ordered to probat court on such and such date, but when I called the police dept, they gave me an address for the courthouse and an amount for the fines. Does that mean I can send them a check for these citations or do I really have to show up in court? I'll call on Monday just to be sure, but I'm trying to get an idea about it now.
One citation was for "too fast for conditions" and the other was "failure to maintain lane." In case you were wondering, I crashed on Blood Mountain in Lumpkin County.
I was not a LEO in GA so I don't have the definitive answer for you. But where I worked if someone didn't show up for court for an accident they would be TIA (Tried in absence) unless it was something like a DUI or anything serious. In your case the driver would have been TIA'd and the judge moves on to the next case. I can't believe for a minute they will issue any kind of paper for not showing up. But checking with the local court is not a bad idea. Another option you have it to hire a local attorney to stand in for you and plead guilty. Not a cheap alternative by any means. You might be able to find one to do it for a couple hundred dollars since there is really no work involved.
if you just pay the tickets and dont go to court on these your attmiting your guilty, and you recieve the points.just paying the tickets your what they call judicating yourself(saying you are guilty of the charges).do you really want to do that. getting the lawyer is the best bet, they can what thay call squashing a ticket(no points,no increase on insurance)insurace co are in bed with the courts and check the offened by computer at least each month and when your name pops up so do your rates and that wont go away for a min 3 yrs.you'll pay the premium rate which over a period of three years will cost more than if you just got the lawyer and youll still have the points on the national data base which i think is country wide now.the lawyer knows how to use tactics like 1. stalling(postpone to a later date hoping the officer wont show and it gets thrown out) remember its your word against his and your not guilty.2.confusion (moving the trial to another location) again the cop wont appear with a mis trial. remember one thing all the courts want is your money or your hind end. my advice get the lawyer and plea not guilty or at least nolo contender(same as no contest)your not really giving all the important facts that youll give the lawyer and thats the way it should be.remember conseltation are free with most law firms and if you get a law office with a name like bernstein i hear that helps if you catch my drift.good luck with that.oh and if you do go to court on this, get there early and find the court sectary and get your name on the list right away, not only will they call you close to first and you wont have to spend all day there also mabey the donut eating cop will be at the java shop tryin to suck down that one last cup of joe and troll in late, again in your favor. one more thing and this gets a lot of people.when the prosicutie attorney ask the judge for a continuance you speak up and say heck no, thats thier fault thier not ready to proceed and your here and ready to try the case. again thrown out because the cop is not there and its your word against his and your not guilty.

Damn my brain hurts after reading the longest paragraph ever on the net. Spell checkers work wonders. By the way, you're an idiot.
Uh, they deliberately lump all the cop's tickets together on one court date, and will just move yours to the next time he's scheduled to be in court. So stalling/moving the date doesn't really work.
In the eyes of the court, you're always guilty, because a cop's word is far more valuable than a citizen's word. By valuable, I of course mean ticket revenue.
Always get a trial by jury if you're offered it. Never choose a judge trial unless you just want to come back to court again and pay the fine at a later date.
If you don't drive through Georgia often, just pay the fine and be done with it.

hey man hows it goin,no way would i come on here and start name calling ,but i would like you to check out a web site about beating a speeding ticket.i just dissagree with your advice on the jury trial thing.for 1 people dont like being in a court room(uncomfortable)(please excuse my poor spelling that doesnt make one an idiot)plus the jury is loosing a days pay to be there now do you want to let these people judge your fate not me.also today and the reason i waited to post today i had court for driving with a sus lic,i would normally keep this to myself as not to wave a flag but it was squashed to lic expired.my next post i will give a web page to see this info for anyone who wants to read.and i recomend any one who gets a speeding ticket and wants out of it.i would almost always recomend getting leagal counsil.
