So two weeks ago I was out on the f4i and hit deer. My insurance company totalled out my bike, so I'm in the market for a new bike. I found an 08 600rr that I'm going to look at and most likely buy.
The only thing that makes me nervous is that it was previously dropped. The bike has minimal damage to the mid fairing and left side engine cover, but I have never seen a foldable footpeg bend before so it worries me that the frame may have taken a bit of a hit if the footpeg bent like that.
Just curious on other's opinions on this one. I will be driving over 3 hours one way. I'm just a little nervous because the guy is asking 5,500 and it only has 1,600 miles on it... I don't think he would want to start taking fairings off when I get there. Too good to be true or am I just over reacting? Besides that damage the bike looks absolutely mint.
200 miles a year? Why? 5500 isn't all that good a deal; Kelley Blue Book
While KBB is just a rough guide, it is always a good place to start.
Motorcycles are not cars. Yes, everybody knows that but few stop and think about what that means. Low mileage is good on a car. Not so good on a bike. That KBB link has an average mileage chart on it somewhere. There are good reasons why having a motorcycle just sit around for years is not good.
I wouldn't even go look at it. I'm pretty sure this time of the year I could find a 600rr of that era for less without the damage.
You can check for frame damage and wheel alignment by riding through water at about 20 to 30 MPH. go back and look at the track the tires leave. They should be lined up. If it looks like a drunken snake is following your front tire through the water, stay away. If you really want a 600rr, Honda sold several boatloads of them. Good bikes. I'm sure there is one out there that is looking for a nice home. If you look, you will find it.
So to answer your original question...personally I would not be too worried about frame damage from a tip-over. I'm no engineer, but I would assume the foot peg would bend and/or break before the frame would start to bend.
Now, on the bike itself, I do agree that the price is a bit much for what it is. If you like it and it's exactly what you want, then I would never discourage anyone from getting exactly what they want. If you're looking to save a few buck then there should be some better options out there. Just get what you want. If this is the bike for you just inspect it for extra damage, but I highly doubt you'll find any frame damage.
Thanks for the replys guys. I think it may just be my location because I for the life of me can't find an 07-08 600rr with less than 10k for any less then $5500. I guess I should be patient, but I don't know how much that's going to help. You have guys selling f4i's for $4,000 here it's ridiculous.
Somewhere here in cyberspace there is a forum for 600rr's. That is a good place to shop. You can get a pretty good idea of what sort of person now owns the bike. That matters a lot.
Thanks to mainstream social media like Facebook, Instagram, snapchat etc, the number of people who use the forums has dwindled. So not that many know about the model specific forums like 600rr.net.
And 99% of forums are owned by Verticalscope now, so plug away.
He is not looking for a sub liter Sport Bike. He is looking for a Honda CBR600rr. That fact that you consider all sub liter sport biks the same demonstrates something. I will pass on the opportunity to expand on just what it demonstrates while saying that you are clueless. Which explains many things.:bangdesk
I'm sure something will turn up. I just don't really have the option to travel further than 100 miles for a bike. I got all winter though.
Thanks for those who said to pass on the low mileage. Originally I was in a tizzy to replace the bike immediately, than I started thinking about anti-freeze geling up and rubber rotting away.
This came up on CL today; https://memphis.craigslist.org/mcy/5364181398.html
It looks shiny. Only 1 chainside pic and 4 brake side. 8900 miles and 4800$. Seems like an early winter special to me. It didn't say where, although I would guess not in the desert.
'06 for 4200$ with 7700 miles.
New fairing and no pic of the stator or clutch cover. That means it has been down more time then Lindsay Lohan. Which doesn't really matter that much. With the bike or LiLO. 600rr isn't that popular a bike around here. Most of the natives are posers and want a liter bike that they can stretch. Then they ride it to the closest hang out and practice looking kewl.
