I always wondered how that worked. So, you claim the accident, insurance co decides to total the bike out and writes you a check for lets say $2600. Hypothetically, how much would they sell it back to you for? With the market value so low, I just cant picture enough wiggle room that would make sportbike plastics(plus lever, side covers, etc)whole, plus put $ in his pocket.
Also, wouldnt the bike now have a "Salvaged" title? I know in Illinois, its damn near impossible to do anything with a Salvaged title bike.

here in asskatchewan, they sell the vehicle at auction for whatever it'll get from someone.
but if YOU want to buy it back, then they sell it to you for about 30% of what they gave you for it.
now if his bike has no structural damage, it may be possible, in his state, to get it inspected and given a "rebuilt" title. not the same as "clear" but has similar funtionality in that it'll be rideable and plateable.
Maybe this is why I'm single, but there is NO WAY I would be forking out for the repairs on that bike. I'm awesome enough to always carry a full coverage package on my vehicles, so she'd be paying the 100 dollar deductible, but she would be doing it. Or, if she didn't want the -6 on her license, she could ebay me some fairings for probably that same price, and I'd get em painted if I cared.

If thats the same here, $1820. in his pocket after buying the bike back isn't bad. Cant imagine why an insurance co. with find this deal beneficial though, but ok.
Yeah, my ZX6 had Rebuilt title when I bought it. When I got the new one in the mail after transfer, it was changed to "Original". God I love holding titles.

I can tell you why it's beneficial:
they don't have to deal with paying someone to auction it off, they don't have to deal with storing it, they don't have to deal with arranging meetings to view it, etc.
it saves them time, AND they recoup some of the cost of writing it off.
also, if he DOES NOT decide to buy it back, 2600 is not far from 3 grand, and for 3 grand you can get a decent bike in the winter even here (a 2gen SV, or a VFR, most mid 90s 600s, maybe an F4i if you look in just the right place and are willing to drive).
Hell, that VFR I showed you a few days ago was 2900, and it looked in good shape.
Now maybe he has an issue with owning an older bike, but hell, any port in a storm.

They might give him 3. This time of the year 3 will get you something decent down here. Just glancing through the craiglist here and 04-05 600RRs with a lot less miles go for about 3500-3800 this time of year. I don't see anything quite as old as his to compare to.

that sounds like more damage than a grand to me... isn't the big fairing usually like 600+ alone? I'm speaking new though.

Not saying you're telling tall tales or anything, but in the land of no winter sales, if you find an 04 636 thats not either a track/stunt bike, or just a big pile of shit for 2500., you better snatch it up and hold onto it with the grip of grim death itself.

I was really tempted, but I don't like the 03/04 636 bikes. I don't know why but I just couldn't dig it.

And those relationships are ones in which the man is not positioned correctly.
It's not about being on top, it's about a relationship being balanced correctly with give and take, complimenting one another so to speak.
If he had wrecked her bike, would he be paying for it? I would say 100 to 1 odds that she would expect him to pay for it.
