Next time I see a mattress in the back of a truck I'm exiting!
Seems like pretty good riding skills. I bet it's pretty hard to keep your cool if something is heading towards you. Especially at highway speeds.

I was driving on the highway a few weeks ago and I passed an SUV that was going slow in the leftmost lane with their hazards on. They had two mattresses tied to the roof. The geniuses in the SUV didn't tie it down lengthwise so the front of the top mattress was sticking straight up, bent where the rope went across the middle. It was probably pretty close to snapping the rope and hitting a car or motorcycle.

I don't know if that was target fixation. I watched it a few times and it looked like it was going to stay in the rider's lane at first. It seems like the rider's natural reaction was to get in the other lane when the mattress flew off. It just so happened that the mattress went the same way.
Either way, that's one lucky rider. It looks like the brain-dead driver didn't even notice that his unsecured mattress nearly killed someone.

Worse than getting hit by a matress , getting hit by some old dudes piss soaked mattress that his wife died in .
Few years back an old friend died , sat dead in his chair by the fire for a week . Anyways cleaning the place out we bagged up the chair as it stank and took it to the waste disposal . As we lugged it out the van some gypsy pikey cunts came over and asked for the chair .. normally they would get a fuck off .. This time we felt charitable .. " yeah no probs its a great chair ,dont unwrap it till you get home though ,dont want to get it dirty " . They even said thanks .. Stupid pikeys .

I'm always on the look out for people that have a bunch of junk in the pack of pick up or on their roof, and try to get in front of them, or stay very far back.

Watch the vid again, mattress was just barely over into the right lane, the rider drifted from the center of the middle lane to the right edge towards it and just managed to miss it. After passing it, the rider moved to the right lane to pass the truck & signal the problem. "you go where you look - target fixation" right out of TOTW.

I understand what target fixation is. Just because he moved right and the mattress went right doesn't automatically make it target fixation. Maybe that's what happened here, maybe not. It looks like the rider purposely moved to the right lane to get out of the way (obviously a bad move, but it happened quickly). Maybe he stared at the mattress and unwittingly moved over. Who knows. I was just giving a different spin on what could have happened.

I had a mattress fly at we once. Luckily, I was in my Jeep, so I was able to run it over. The owner definitely deserved the black tire marks on his new mattress.

FLYING mattress vs biker!!!! : Suzuki GSX-R Motorcycle Forums: Gixxer.com
"The other day my brother came to me and showed me this video of him going to work. I am glad he made it out without any injury.
He told me he was looking at his right mirror to merge onto the the right lane and by the time he looked up. He saw the mattress heading towards him."
