I miss my bike

Hey guys, been awhile since I've posted here. As some of you might know, I recently moved to France for a year due to school. I needed a place to vent so here shall be it, I MISS MY DAMN BIKE. Seriously, people talk about getting homesick while being away from their native country, not me, I can honestly say that the one thing I miss the most is my motorcycle. I dream about riding, I spend the days when its raining (which is practically everyday here in France) browsing the classifieds looking for the bike that I'll be buying as soon as I get home (I sold my Speed Triple before I left).

On the bright side, I've saved up enough to money to buy one of two bikes when I return home, this will be my sixth bike so I'm looking for something different and I've landed on Ducati.

It will most likely be between this:

I have no idea why people disliked the 999, I think it's one of the best looking Ducatis out there

i love the looks of the 999 (749 Dark (?)). will probably never own one, but still love the looks of it. Grats on getting to be in France or anywhere in Europe, for that matter. i so want to go there just once....

most definitely the sport classic 1000 and get it done up like the one in that picture.

Man, do I get that feeling.

I moved to the south of Chile this year after selling my bike. That bike was a little 125cc that I was anxious to change for something more fun, but at least it was a ride... then here snow came and I had no bike until August.

I day and night dreamt about riding, but even just working on a bike would have pleased me. Since September I've been riding a Ducati 916, and each morning when I approach it while putting on my gloves, I feel the luckiest man alive.

People find it strange that I ride it daily, everywhere, in this weather, but I just NEEDED it so bad!!

You'll get there, man, and it looks like you'll do it on one hell of a bike.

As to your options, those SC's are so beautiful, although slightly overpriced for some reason (they seem to get more expensive with time). If you ask me today, I think I'd go for one of those over the Superbike, but that's just for the sake of variety, and the fact that I like air cooled Ducatis, and don't really need the power of the superbikes (even though the 916 only makes around 110hp).

But the 999 is tempting too. I've read great reviews about it, and loving the 916 so much, I bet it'd be amazing, while still retaining some of the lovely "roughness" of its older sister.

Bah, can't decide, but at least you can't go wrong

Just get you a scooter while you are over there and pretend its a chronically under-powered / clutchless supermoto.

Yea the SC are becoming something of a collectors bike, but you can still find them for a decent price on Ducati.ms every now and then. 6 more months to go and I'll be back on a motorcycle. Everytime a bike rides past me here in France, I cry a little. I did however rent a Ducati monster when I was in Italy to ease the pain.

I've always had a thing for the SC, I think they're one of the sexiest (albiet most uncomfortable) bikes ever made.

The 999 is a nice bike. I think people miss the single-sided swingarm from the other models though. I agree with you, it is a gorgeous design.

Love the pic of the Eiffel. I always surprises me the way it...towers...over the surrounding buildings. You really don't get a feel for how damn big it is until you see it from the other side of the city, like from Sacre Coeur. I had the pleasure of watching the Bastille Day fireworks from Eiffel park, which was amazing.

Yeah, that's mainly cos you're in the wrong side of France. It was 65F and sunny today around my neck of woods

Having said that, I'm still without a license and my R1 is completely dead sitting down in the garage collecting dust .. FML. So yeah, as a foreigner living in a different country (something I've been since I was 14), I hear what you say about missing riding.

God, I think I'd rather not have a bike than have one and not be able to ride it, I feel for ya man. Where are you in France, the South obviously, in past conversations do I remember hearing you were around Nice?

Your in france , historical nest of the supermoto genre .. You should have bought one while you were there and left black lines all over Paris .

I was tempted to go this route, but the thought of not being able to sell my bike before I left turned me off from that.

If you are able, try to swing by the Swiss border area of France. Freaking incredible. I spent 3 months there, living in the town Villers-le-lac (closest city is Besançon on the French side, Neuchatel on the Swiss side)

Beautiful area. Dammit, I've now spent 10 minutes on google street view there. It's been 10 years and I still remember most everything.
