Why did he get released from MotoGP in the first place? Does PBM honestly think their problems are exclusively from the rider?

Hasn't the yamaha liter bikes struggled in bsb ever since the rules changed, not allowing those fancy frames they use in the AMA? Curious choice... I guess it's better than no ride.

And who came out with the fastest lap of the weekend?
You can word it however you want it, doesn't validate it.
Hayden was .5 second faster than his 2012 Qual time, and .8 faster than Melandri.

Well, Nicky was scheduled for 2 of the 3 days at the test. Dovi has a neck injury which prevents him from testing. Ben is still recovering from surgery and not testing.
Let's say you're right and Nicky should be out there setting fastest time on day 1 with a cold track. Let's also say that he wads his bike up and injures himself. Now 3 of your 4 riders can't test on the first day of a scheduled 3 day test. Fucking brilliant move, I'd say.
You don't get much testing done if you can't turn laps. The data isn't going to create itself.
Nicky's been around as long as he has mostly because he takes a more level-headed, long view of such situations. He realizes that you aren't going to win a race in November. You build your speed up in Feb and March while you develop an understanding of the bike.
Conversely, last year Stoner goes out and sets a few blazing laps and then parks the bike. Come race time they have chatter and have no fucking clue what to do to resolve it because they only have limited laps worth of data to work from.
Yup, I can see where setting fast time is what it's all about...

tl;dr
Forget it, you guys are getting to wrapped up in defending Nicky and are completely missing the point.

You're right, I don't get your point, no matter who the rider is. This isn't about defending Nicky, it's about testing. Your goal isn't fastest lap even if the other bikes are WSBK. In this case, with the hole that Ducati is trying to dig out of, you need to make every lap count and putting it on the ground because of pushing too hard on a cold track won't get it for you.
You seem to be forgetting that the WSBK bikes run different tires, not the hard-to-warm Bridgestones. How much time per lap do you think that may account for? Is it really that hard to understand? Get over the whole Nicky thing and look at the whole picture. Quit trying to compare apples to oranges.
If the air and track temps were closer to what you'd see mid-season, maybe the fact that 2 WSBK riders were faster than a MotoGP bike would be worth raising an eyebrow.

I agree, just a lame excuse for getting his mudhole stomped, and walked dry.
