That's like saying 1st gen = 2nd gen. They're complete redesigns from the ground up.
Suzuki also offered the 2nd gen SV at the same time as the SFV... so Suzuki doesn't think they're the same bike, either.

Kawasaki is the only Japanese brand that makes anything even remotely interesting to me anymore.

The Gladius wasn't designed for the market that fits the members of this website.
That being said it is ugly and it sucks and I can't possibly believe that Suzuki could consider it a sales success. I don't ever think I have seen one on the street. They should redesign the SV650 and bring it back in faired and unfaired versions. The Gladius sucks.

good stuff, barely anybody on here has seen one, let alone ride one, but its a shit bike.
maybe the bike isn't marketed for you fella's, as has been mentioned before, the ladies seem to like it, maybe cuz of the boob shaped light, i dunno.
its basically a UJM, fun to ride, good gas mileage, reliable.
could use better suspenders for us fat folks but for the ladies i bet its suspended well.
i put a GSXR600 shock and SS ft brake lines. if it were my bike, i'd upgrade the forks, but its not my bike, it's my wife's, officially. but pretty much all 6000mi on ours i rode.
we wanted a new nekkid SV at the time, they didn't make one. we got the bike for like $5500 drive out @ 0.9%
all i want do now is de-cat the bike and a can. thats all it needs, has plnty of power for me @ 80mph currently, would like a little more noise and a lil more ooomph at speed ( but then again i'm coming from a 'busa and currently my Tuono) but it's fine for most people.
as for the guy saying his buddies sold the bike in the first yr and took a bath, name a bike tht you can sell in the first yr an NOT take a bath, and i bet they replaced them w/ SS bikes. just like people saying 250s are not enough bikes.........
$8k is pretty high for the bike, $6-7 is a better price point, but then again 600SS bikes are $12k nowadays.

And how much is the fully faired redesigned Ninja 650R? Suzuki needs to think harder if they truly believe that just because they put a new Non-SuperSport bike out that has "Suzuki" on it doesn't automatically mean it will sell. That only works for 600SS+ bikes.

I personally rode one. I had been on a naked SV before and much much much preferred the SV. As you may have gleaned from my posts on the subject, I did not like the bike and ended up getting a much abused R6 project instead. The Gladius was more comfortable than the R6 - I will give it that.
As I recall a Gladius is a Roman short sword. The Suzuki Gladius is not aptly named.

boy thats about a 180 deg. change in buying idea from a new nekkid 650 v-twin to a abused R6.
like i said, if you're looking for a 600SS bike, then a SV nor Gladius is not the bike for you.
w/ that said, the SV and the gladius both w/ proper suspenion upgrades is still prob. more bike then 90% of riders will ever "master", then you have 600SS bikes which 99% will never master.
like any kawi ninja is quiet and stealthy........
seeing how the ninja 650 is $7500 and the gladius $8k, i guess it isn't too far outta the ballpark pricing wise.

A little off topic, but...
I always thought your screen name, Claudius, was due to this bike (and perhaps that your name is also Claudio, I don't know).

I wasn't considering buying the Gladius - I just had the opportunity to ride one and said, what the heck, I might like it. I was coming from a Triumph S4 and frankly, before I rode the Gladius, I had decided on a Street Triple or a used 600SS. The Gladius did nothing for me and I didn't like it. It had none of the feeling of lightness that I had associated with riding the unfaired SV650. Then the R6 came up for very cheap and I went that way - the R6 was the only competitor to the Street Triple.
To digress for a moment, the R6 is a bike that you either love or hate riding - there isn't much middle ground. IMHO it is much too focused for most people in the long term.
I should also note that I have a 2003 ZX6R as a dedicated track bike.
