Don't forget Laguna Seca of 08 (Ross/Stoner battle), one of my favorites. Happened to be the first year I really started to FOLLOW motogp.

A little excerpt from one of Max's links.

Burgess also debunks the myth that Valentino is trying new solutions or part in free practice, to justify the fact that it is often far from the days of Hayden. "It is simply the method of work that is different - he stresses - Rossi always think from the perspective of race, is not interested in finding the best setup for a single lap, but for the pass. In Ducati are legitimately and those results are obtained only on Sundays. It makes no sense on the front row if he can not keep the pace throughout the race. "

Thought I'd quote that just to put practice results in perspective as it seems quite a few people put a lot of emphasis on FPs.

Rossi has never been overly concerned with qualifying. I used to think he did it on purpose to make the races more interesting.

IIRC, there was a race at Phillip Island quite a few years back where Rossi started from pit lane 10 seconds later than everyone else, then WON the race... by 5 seconds. Utter domination.

It amazes me that some people emphasize FP or QP results over actual race results.

Not pit lane... He passed under caution after Bayliss got rag rolled, got a 10 second penality and proceeded to haul ass. I think he finished like 20 seconds ahead of 3rd place.

Hayden resign with Ducati pretty much a done deal. Rossi got rest of silly season on lockdown.

I never saw the race, I just heard about it from the commentators later on, and from what I gather it was nothing short of glorious, unrestrained talent. Do you remember what year that was? I might have to go back and watch that race..

I was like shit... He's not gonna win, that's bullshit. But then you could visibly see a change in his body language. He looked like he was just riding angry, but controlled.
The commentators noticed it.. they said, oh look, Rossi's figured it out, he's got his head down.. oh boy.
