I wish he would get on SBN, can you imagine what that would be like?

Indicated on the dash I'm sure, as I had mine touching 156 by the end of the front straight before T1 @ Road America back in May. No doubt the AMA guys that actually know how to ride an 848 are likely hovering around 170+ before braking for T1.

DON'T SPEAK SUCH BLASPHEMY!
firstly, an 848 is no "Little Bastard"
and secondly, more importantly, if James Dean were alive, he'd bitch slap Justin Bieber.
and that, friends, is the only context n which James Dean should be mentioned in the same sentence.
with him bitch slapping bieber.

There are insurance policies guys in his position get to deal with that problem.
Don't get all the silly hate. Did everyone here wait till their 30th birthday to get their first bikes? Every one of you would trade places with this kid in a second.

Yep...well, that's what I noticed when I backed off the throttle to start braking. If I had to guess I probably was at 160-ish....but I didn't record any sessions and (bad habit) looked down at the dash once I started braking (but as you know, backing off throttle scrubs off speed as well...especially with the engine braking of a twin which I wasn't used to). RA was my very first time on the track with the 848 and first time at Road America....so combo of new-to-me bike and new-to-me track in a TrackSchool enviornment made sure speed wasn't a primary focus.
I'd expect my top speed to be a bit higher now that I've had a full season on it (earlier roll-on thru the final corner, not backing off before the rise, and not backing off at my imaginary brake marker #7, lol) :-)
She's (Jessica/ ZARS) planning on on doing a double-header weekend early next season. Friends will want me to bring the CBR....but I'm bringing the Duc.

You know, I thought about JB and the Ducati and am of two minds on it. First and foremost, someone has to get with this kid and get him to wear appropriate gear on the bike. It flashes back too much to Ice-T on the ZX7R with the girl and no helmet and high tops. (It was in some movie I think.) He has to realize that he is setting a poor example - plus, if this is his first bike, I fear for him. Not a good first bike choice - but it's America so freedom of choice.
From another perspective, anything that makes riding look cool to younger kids has got to be good for the sport. The more riders the better. Yes, some of them are going to be squids and fools - but IMHO the more people that want to get into riding, the more lucrative it will be for the major MC companies to put more into current manufacturing, research and development. So a popular kid riding is a good thing - although as I said, his shoe choice is a bit too Michael Jackson for my more conservative tastes.
So, while to some extent we should mock (1) his choice of footwear; (2) his choice of first bike (although he could have been riding for years, who knows); (3) his foolhardy and squiddish lack of gear; (4) his hair, etc. It is probobly good that the kid is riding.

I am sure the same thing was said when Vanilla Ice, Puff Daddy (at the time) and Tom Cruise did music videos/movies riding motorcycles.

I agree. But this kid isn't riding the bike in a movie.

Rich people seem to collect vehicles in general. It happens when you have enough money that something $50K is an impulse buy. That doesn't mean they ever drive or ride them. Its just something cool to have.
On the other hand, he is probably tired of being hated on by dudes everywhere (I think men are programmed to go after any man the women like too much). Probably wants some "respect" or manliness. Or hell, he is technically an 18 year old boy. He may just like fast toys like everyone else.
