Default Ninja 250 top speed 87MPH?

I took a ride out to Long Island (SSP & Sunrise) today and finally got a chance to push my Ninja all the way in 6th gear and full-on throttle. The needle moved to 96 and just stayed there no matter how long I had the throttle open. Considering that Ninja 250 speedometers are 10% faster, the maximum speed that my bike can get to is 87? I mean... wow.

Maybe it isn't a highway bike.

i dunno, i had mine to an indicated 110+ and it still had a wee bit left. it was an 06 though... don't the newer ones actually have less HP despite weighing more?

Depends on the country i think. In Europe I head the new ones with FI make more power, I heard the carbs american ones are the same. I have seen old and new drag side by side and they where dead even.

Well... it is a 250. Those arent really meant to go much faster than 100 mph.

It isn't an ideal highway bike, but's it's capable enough. I would expect it to get pretty close to an actual 100mph; if it can't, there is probably something not right with the bike. My wife's 250 Nighthawk will do an honest 80mph on level ground, and it's unfaired and thus less aerodynamic, and also makes considerably less power than the 250 Ninja.

I rode my friend's 08 250 home for him when he bought it last summer... I was shittin bricks trying to merge onto Southern State with the short entrance ramps... When I finally got onto the LIE I opened it up and was so surprised how it felt like it was barely moving...
I think I rode most of the way home with the speedometer reading 70-80... I don't know what the top speed of the bike is, but if it's over 100 I would imagine it taking a verrrryyyy long time to get there...

Mine wasn't that bad, it didnt' take very long at all. I think you maybe thinking that from riding your 600cc. It just seems like its taking a very long time. I know when I get on a 600 right now, I feel like I have to rip on the throttle to get it to do anything. My GF recently purchased a Hyosung 250, and riding that thing feels like riding an eletric scooter. But when I look at the speedo you can def tell it is still a bike.

87mph is still over the speed limit. its no sport tourer but I took a ninja 250 on plenty of trips and it wasn't that bad.
