At your local BMW dealer. I've had a deposit down since last June (doesn't mean I'll buy one, but I have a place at the front of the line).

Then you should go start your own thread about it and quit mucking up mine with that V-Max wannabe.

If I recall it's supposed to be 392lbs dry. 450 is wet w/o ABS, 455 is wet with. Which also implies that their ABS is 17 lbs lighter than Hondas, which doesn't seem right.

Coming in 11th every race is starting to hurt isn't it Kevin?
I liked it in concept form, but not so much now. I'd like to own a BMW one day, this one just doesn't look like the one. The K1300S looks promising.

I'm not really clear that the RSV4 is doing better than the BMWs in average finishing position, but I haven't been keeping close track as I'm not a huge racing fan. I think one rider did finish 7th/9th at Monza last weekend, didn't he? The other one had a traffic crash and retired? That's probably fodder for a different thread, too.

Here's the point standings as of today:
Ducati - 225
Yamaha - 180
Honda - 141
Suzuki - 89
Aprilia - 84
BMW - 59
Kawasaki - 19
Aprilia has a real shot for 4th, which would be an amazing accomplishment with an all new bike. KTM looks like the RC8R will be in for 2010 making it 8 brands.
I was just giving you a hard time. I really wanted to like the S1000. I hope they do the white with red & blue from the prototype intro.

You got that right. The RSV4 is only the sexiest two-wheeled machine right now.

BMW has been working with ABS on motorcycles since 1989, the first company to put ABS on a motorcycle. So they figured out how to make it small and light.

Im happy to hear that the price may not be as high as I initially thought. However, my concerns lie in the continous expansion in technology that these new bikes encompass.
In almost any instance, a manufacturer releasing a brand new bike will have to deal with first and second year production failures, repairs and fixes to each component. Traction control, ABS, onboard computer, heated handgrips, partially linked braking systems etc. are all indicators of BMW's technological successes in the past. The future lies in this technology, but in reality, its all the old airheads and two-strokes that will outrun these new bikes in durability, reliance and cost of ownership.
I am by no means saying these technologies are obsolete or insignificant, but they do have their downfalls. Extensive service, maintenance and labor costs due to increased reliance on computerized diagnostics, advanced repairs and sophisticated designs are some examples. Increased labor costs for each dealer and maufacturer as their staff needs more training for development, service and repairs is yet another. Finally, higher cost of parts due to more sophisticated engineering, testing and production/re-tooling.
In sum, these new bikes may be the wonder of an ideal world, but in reality, many of us will only be able to use a fraction of what these bikes could do in a perfect environment with a perfect rider. So far, I have found none of my rides on public roads to contain neither of those two variables
Considering the cost and reliability issues that follow new production models, I simply can not get so enthused about a brand new model. Sorry KeS, but I genuinely do hope you will be happy with the bike.

Nobody said you had to. But in that case, why are you following this thread at all? And if you already have a K1200S, you're quite a way down the technology road already, BTW. And finally, the technology in the S1000RR is *precisely* targeted at making more of the bike's capabilities available to imperfect riders in imperfect environments.

Well, they hadn't figured it out by 1998, the ABS on my K1200RS was far from small OR light. And Honda's no tyro to ABS either. I'm surprised by both numbers - 22lbs for the Honda seems very heavy, and 5lbs for the BMW very light.

So comparing both manufacturer's claimed "wet" numbers, the non-ABS BMW is 11lbs heavier than the non-ABS CBR, and the ABS BMW is 6lbs lighter than the ABS CBR.

no it's a bad design because it's ugly. Symmetry is a fundamental aspect of beauty and in some things form is more important than function. This is one of them.
Either way when the first updated one comes out I'm sure it will be a great machine. I imagine there wil be more than a few refinements to the bike in the next few years.
