Yellow Lines when dry?
I know the paint lines in the middle of the road are slippery when wet, and when riding my bike I always tried to avoid them in all situations. In reality though, how slippery are the painted lines and how much do they effect traction when theyre dry?

I almost went down from dry ones once, I was leaned way over almost dragging a peg and hit the white dotted line (passing zone up the mountain) and the rear slide out, I was able to recover but almost shat myself. Since then I have stayed away from the lines. Always amazes me people that cut across the lanes like at Deals Gap. No thank you...

It depends on the line its self. They make em more durable for places like intersections etc. places that see tons of traffic. These are much slicker then the average line. Almost all lines will have a slick protective coating on them for durability. I'd never trust them.

Any paint, especially in high-wear areas, will compromise the traction of the road surface. Beware even when dry.

What he said!
I see alot of people on group rides will over take someone by coming around someone on the outside for a bend across the white lines and I always cringe. I think its to risky.
I got brought down to earth once(physcologically) by a piece of card board once doing that stupid stunt. It was night so I didn't see it but luckly I didn't bin it but I prefer not to compromise my traction.

It depends. I've seen some that were made with grit-mixed paint that weren't really noticeable. But in general, they are noticeably more slippery, and the Bots dots are always so.
I use this to my advantage as a practice/experience opportunity in feeling the front or rear slip a bit. I find an appropriate intersection where I can pull out left in a reasonably wide arc and speed, and run the front or rear across the line, having firmly coached myself to NOT change the throttle - particularly not to let go of it. The width of the line will let the bike slide just a little.
Disclaimer: If you attempt to emulate this and crash, find someone else to sue. I'm only reporting what *I* have done, not recommending that *you* do it.

I had the back step out like 15 mins ago under power when heading through an uphill turn.

Cardboard/plastic soda cup lids/napkins of doom are a different case. The tire grabs them and doesn't let go, and they turn into sled runners that skid across the pavement until they either wear through, or are released because your tires are now pointed sideways instead of downwards.
They are much more hazardous than narrow lane stripes, which typically don't move around under you as long as you are east of the San Andreas.

a poland spring bottle with water still in it.....that not only did the front tire go over it, it also pointed the bike into the other lane.

Ofcourse, my main point was more that its not wise in my opinion to be crossing yellow lines while concerned about traction, because if you're crossing yellow lines you are more then likely passing someone and if its into a corner you may not know what lies there because your vision of the corner was temporarily blocked by the person you were passing. If you're passing while the bike is moreless straight up you have alot less to worry about unless you smash the throttle right when you hit the line.
In the wet, don't even think about touching them. Its a slip n slide!
Like kevin_stevens said - just keep the throttle steady, be smooth. You'll have to get feel for them on your own.

One of the guys in my hall crashed his Hardly for the second time in 2 weeks the other day on a white line. First time he ended up going slow in the parking lot, accidentally leaned it over, mistaked the clutch for the brake, and put it straight into a wall, falling over on his side. Someone caught it and put it on youtube mixed with scenes from Fast and the Furious, but he made them take it down. Funny as hell. Some people should not be riding...
