best all round- ninja 636 or gsxr 750?

hey whats up guys. i have been riding over 3 1/2 years and i am coming off riding a 00 cbr 600. i am 6'2 175lbs or so and cruise but like to sport ride a lot. i would love to get a bike that has decent ergos and nice suspension. having a bike with smooth motor and decent wind protection would be nice too. i am trying to get either a 00-05 gsxr 750 or 05-06 ninja 636. which one of these do you think i should choose? anyone who has these models that are around my size please speak up the info is much appreciated. thanks

perhaps a sport tourer is more up your alley instead of supersports.

No supersport falls into the best all around category..

I was thinking something along the lines of an FZ6 or FZ1 as an all around option.

Kawi all the way. The ergos aren't bad - I have taken mine as far north as Toronto (I am in the DC area). Suspension is cool but I would recommend a steering damper. It has enough grunt for "spirited riding" and I daresay the 05/06 makes similar power to an older gixxer

Something about Suzukis bothers me, maybe the fact that you can't swing a dead cat without hitting 5 of them.

i am almost exactly your size, and i love my 636, but our riding styles are completely different. so i cant vouch for comfort when it comes to "cruising"

The zx6-r/636 has a reputation for horrible ergos. I rode a friend's '03 once and it was torture. Sat on an '05 and said no thanks. Maybe the more current versions are better. Never heard any 750 owner who didn't like their bike.

Moderator - New riders, help me fix it and riders' gear. Send me a PM with questions, suggestions, or issues.

Never out-ride your ability to react (even stop) within the distance you can see (at least on the street).

That's what it comes down to. Performance wise, the two are very close. If you don't have a brand preference, throw a leg over each one and see which one feels better. If you get the chance to test ride both that will undoubtedly make the decision for you. They're different enough that one will suit you better than the other.

That having been said my vote is for the Kawi. I have ridden both bikes you're looking at. The 05-06 636's are much more comfortable than 03-04 and it's a great bike. But I'm also a Suzuki hater, so take that into account.

Maybe it's because all you did was "sit" on the '05, since the '05-'06's completely addressed the ergo issues that people were bitching about with the '03-'04's. The '05-'06 636 is honestly one of the most comfortable supersports for street riding.

And I'm not just saying that because I have one: I have one because it was basically the only supersport at the time where I felt like I could actually stand to ride it all day (and I do).
