I feel ya dude, I drove a CB7 for a while ('92 Accord coupe with the F22A6) all my friends are honda guys, my pal justin drives a B20 swapped HF CR-X with Jackson Racing supercharger, my buddy David drives a DA9 Integra with a B18 swap, his is N/A though because he's big into auto-X, pal Madison drives a N/A built B16A swapped CR-X Si, he's running Toda VTEC killer cams and it's bored a bit, then my pal Jon drives a B18 swapped CR-X DX lol
not shitting you dude, how I ended up with a kawi is beyond me
But if I were to get another car it'd have to be a NA6 or NA8 Miata (first gen's) that's what I learn to drive in and is my fave car out there.
Everybody is just jealous that Honda was the first to come up with a working variable camshaft profile system and the first to use it in a production vehicle

Actually, I believe many american and euro companies were developing a similar system as far back as the 40's, but never got around to use it.

Now you know why my Prelude is sitting on stands in the garage. I can't stand getting mobbed by guys who look like their most popular hangout is a dermatologists office...

Several American companies were playing around with it during the 50's. But it wasn't pneumatic. And note I typed Honda was the first to use a working version in a production vehicle. But either way we were both wrong.
"Fiat was the first auto manufacturer to patent a functional automotive variable valve timing system which included variable lift. Developed by Giovanni Torazza in the late 1960s"
I've never needed a valve timing system's help. Besides, the pimple covered guys who always wanted to talk about the car didn't do anything for me...
A couple of the main reasons for VTEC's development was to create more torque low down without the aid of forced induction and more cc's, and also for effeciency whilst still having the same high performance, it's pretty genius really, you're almost always high in the rev range whilst racing on a circuit most older VTEC Honda engines had VTEC come in at roughly 5,000 RPM.
You really have to have knowledge of something to criticise.
for some reason when i think of Honda Civics with big VTEC stickers on the doors, i don't think of fast cars...
