Racing is same deal. You can spend anywhere from $300 to $2000 a weekend. The fast local racers go through 4-5 sets of tires in a weekend and run $12 a gallon fuel. Entry fees are $150-350 depending on classes you run. You also need some more gear/parts then a track day. Transponder, safety wire, etc.

that depends how many classes you want to race.
here are our fees. its says 2007 but it also fits 2008

General Fees
New Racer Clinic $100
2007 CCS Race License
(After Sept. 1st 2007 - $60) $115
2007 CCS & ASRA Race License $165
One Event License $40
Race Day Gate Fee $10

Race Entries
First Race $90
Second Race $70
Each Additional $50

Trackday Fees
Pre Entered 3 or more races $100
Pre Entered 2 or more races $135
Half Day morning or afternoon $95
All Other Riders $160
Open Session Trackdays $199

alot of people here have two sets of rims. with new tires on them. they will race with a set of tires. than use those tires for the next race weekend practices than switch rims/tires to the new set to race with and so on. so figure 1 set of tires each race weekend. I am going to try to get by on 1 set every 2 race weekends and keep using my take offs for the track days on reduce my track days to the tracks i will race on the next round.

plus i am still trying to pic if i want to do 1 class or 2.

this just gives you a idea.
You still need gear (The track day club i ride with has free leather rental) safety wire a few things. Most have a belly pan. also your plastics lights removed or taped. they want you to remove them.

if you run race tires you will need warmers if you are going to race.

I might have to start looking for a track bike when I get back to Cali next year. I was going to convert my 750, but I think I could probably get a couple year old 600 for about the same as it would cost to convert my bike over and it would be a whole lot less hassle. What is the preferred track in socal?

not just that, but keeping the 750 will put you in the Heavyweight class instead of the middleweight classes. so you would be up with the liter bikes in a race and a few 600's and 750. i dropped from a 750 to a 600 and never look back. so fun

How about 2 strokes? If I were to do a race weekend each month, would it be cheaper or more expensive to keep a 125 going or a 600 4 stroke? I just love how easy the smaller bikes are to move around. I am a small guy; 5'9" and 165#'s.

you are short not so much small, you probably could stand to lose another 10 - 15 pounds.

The smaller and lighter 2 strokes are just so much fun to throw around.

I bought a fully equipped and fully prepped track bike from an Advanced class rider in my track club. This was after running my brand new street bike on the track a few times. You can easily convert back and forth, as my buddy did, but it is more time consuming and I couldn't relax with a brand new bike on the track. Buying a used race/track bike from a reputable source will save u time and money. And they aren't always that expensive.

Mine's for sale right now if anyone is interested in the DC/VA/MD area. My 1k street bike is, too. I'm looking for something new this off season, like a top tier ex-AMA Supersport/Superstock bike.
