fairly simple, if a little random question guys. i've read on a couple places on the internet (including here on SBN) that the stock tires on the 2008 ninja 250's are just crap, and should be replaced ASAP. now, i tried to search for this thread where i read this, but i couldnt find it.
basically my question is whether anyone else has heard/experienced anything with these tires that would lead them to believe they are not very good. im looking into getting a new set of tires based on what i have read about the stock tires, and i just wanted to get some additional info from others, just so i dont go out and buy a new set when i really might not need them.
they're fine. thats stupid to throw away brand new tires based off what others tell you
are there better tires? yes. will you need or be able to appreciate better tires as a new rider? no.

2006 Ninja 250R 12,150 miles- sold!
2005 SV650S 7,200 miles- sold!
2008 GSXR 600 6,6xx miles and counting
my very own sticky! you+bike+gear
Seems you can fit a 150 size tire but most recommend 140 for the rear on the new 250.
As for stock tires being crap, what comes stock on the bike? I always find this funny because chances are the ones that come stock people will say suck, but find another forum and another motorcyclist that run those after market and they think they are great tires *shrug* Most riders could not tell a difference in tires anyhow.

thats basically what i told myself when i started thinking about this, i only have 700 miles experience on the thing, so i could get the most expensive tires i can find, and the only difference would be that i have a much lighter wallet after i bought em.

thats really funny u brought up the larger tire thing, because i was actually thinking about that to, i have seen the same thing, a guy put a 150 ont he back and a 130 on the front of his 08 250. the only reason i would like to do the larger tires is, IMO, i think it would look a little better than the 110/130 combo i have on there now.
i hear what ur sayin about the tires to, i have heard a lot of people say now that the tires on the bike are fine, and that i have no reason to change em. i guess its all in the eye of the beholder.
Get the diablo sport demons. Make the bike handle far better. They are I think slightly larger than stock size but everyone on any 250 forum or who knows anything runs them. The stock tires do suck.

The stock tires on the 87-07 were the Dunlop K630's
I never had a problem with them, although I could get my rear end to fishtail when I was running out of tread depth...YMMV.
The stock tires on the 08+ are the Bridgestone BT45's or the Dunlop GT501's.
Both are considered premium rubber for the 16" wheels of the previous gen. I would not doubt their performance on the 17" wheels of the 08.
Outside of the states, you get the IRC something or others. I hear those suck.
Are the stock tires the best tires? No. Do they work just fine? Yes. I've even done a track day on them and didn't have a problem. They are extremely hard so they don't grip quite as well as some other tires do, but I've yet to have a problem with them, although it's about time for me to upgrade as I've got 6500 miles and a track day on them...
They do make a difference even on the street. I was able to take turns a lot faster at steeper lean angles because they inspire more confidence, and stick better, the stock ones are alright but when you reach the limits they start to skip where as the sport demons I never got to that point.

By the time he's riding like that, I'm sure he'll have burned through his stock tires.
thanks for the advice guys......taking what most people have said, the tires i got now are probably more than good enough for a new rider like me. its good to know some suggestions though for when i do burn through them
