Valentino Rossi trains primarily on a dirt bike with a street rear tire. He claims that the sliding under braking and power helps him. Of course the physical benefits are well worth the effort as well. MX riders have always been some of the best conditioned athletes in the world.

I think the argument always starts in here when someone new to street riding claims that he/she has ridden off road before and should be qualified for a more powerful bike. I for one never claimed that riding in the dirt wasn't beneficial.

And that's almost as good as the powerband on a RM.

But i got the red powerbands from the factory. I almost got blue but I think the reds are a little smoother.....

I wish that was the only case, one of the resident instructors on here refused to acknowledge any bennefit from dirt riding when I was recommending it to a newbi. so waiting or him to step in again.

Here is what I know: I rode dirt for 2 years before I got any kind of sportbike. I was on a ninja 250 at 16 and a SV650 ay 17. I've never had any wrecks or serious close calls....and I don't ride like a grandma.

I have another buddy who rode dirt for 3-4 years before he got his R6. (R6 was his first streetbike) He has nearly 10k miles on it, he rides WAY too fast, and he hasn't wrecked or had any close enough calls worth telling me about.

Seeing a common theme?

I know I'm not a great rider. I've never dragged a knee, but I'm a teenager and I'm on a bike, while not that fast compared to other bikes, is still pretty quick.....and I've been fine on it. I'm with blurr on this.

Correct, dirt riding creates the best riding foundation. Absolutely without question.

I think everyone should learn on a dirt bike, then go to a street bike.

I know im a safer rider because of it.

I sold my crf450 to my best friend. And he's moving in with me next week so I will get to ride it all the time. I like it more than my RM250 for just dicking around.

BTW, great thread.
your never to big for a fiddy get a big bar kit and your good to go . as far as my daughter goes i first got her one of the power wheels 4 wheelers .so she could follow me around the yard and she wanted nothing to do with it. she only wanted to ride my z50 so off she went her only issue is reaching the ground when she wants to stop she either yells stop or just stops and falls over lol

50's are great. I didn't ride my first one until I was 20! I remember I was riding around my friends property on a YZ85 and he was on his honda 50. I ran out of gas so we rode the lil 50 2 up to get gas... one of our buddies came wheeling by on his 250 and when he saw us he laughed, lost control, and fell right over. He was still laughing and crying when we rode over to see if he was all right.

So did you throttle it down? is it an automatic cv style or clutchless shift?

nope its in 100% stock form and its a 3 speed semi auto but she just sputters around in first gear . she cant get going to fast and when she lets off the engine braking slows her down pretty quick . i would like to get a remote kill just in case so far so good with out it . oh and i move the brake lever to the top of the bar so she can grab it and push down on it
